BIEAF 2025 -'The Lost Center:
Art in Crisis' explores how contemporary art responds to the collapse of central values, shared narratives, and stable reference points in a rapidly changing world.
Erno Bokor was born on June 3, 1933, in Turda, Romania. He pursued his artistic studies at the School of Folk Art, where he earned his diploma in 1985. Since 1990s, he took part in several group exhibitions in Cluj- Napoca and at the Hungarian House in Stockholm. In 2025, his latest solo exhibition opened at the Hidelve Gallery from Cluj-Napoca.

My artist name: 57' ERZSEBETH PALASTI. I was born on June 5, 1957, in Budapest, Hungary. I graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts with a Diploma with Honors. I have received numerous domestic and international awards. My most important award: ITALY: "Internetional Leonardo Da Vinci Award. I have participated in more 400 exhibitions around the world.

In my painting, nature is reborn from the seed of life, in the form of an angel. Beacuse the angel is a symbol of goodness, purity and truth. Many cultures often depict it and call upon it for help in times of trouble, illness and problems. We can always count on them beacuse they have cosmic power and are the Creator's reliable helpers. The seed of life carries the hope of rebirth and is therefore the source of renewing nature and human life. My picture is an encouragement for the people of the future.

Ismail Bakr is a multifaceted artist who combines creative and administrative roles within the Egyptian art scene. As a photographer and director of the "Gallery Around the World" program, he offers viewers unique insights into art from various corners of the globe. In addition to his media work, Bakr is a distinguished visual artist with his own unique mark in the art world. He is also the organizer of the "Sun Boats" International Exhibitions, playing a pivotal role in bringing international artists to Egypt and fostering cultural and artistic exchange. His contributions don't stop there; he also holds the position of Director of Photography at Egyptian Television, reflecting his extensive experience in visual production and his role in showcasing arts on national screens.

This is a natural photograph from the depths of waterfalls in Iceland, showcasing natural formations without human intervention. The textures visible in the image suggest dark and light-colored rock and earth, along with a white, foamy or icy element at the bottom, possibly accompanied by mist or water spray. I can discern what could be interpreted as "eyes" in the image. In the central part of the light brown formation that resembles a fin or a marine creature, there are two small, dark, oval-shaped areas that appear like a pair of eyes. This interpretation gives the overall shape the appearance of a living creature or a face. This phenomenon is known as "pareidolia," where the brain perceives familiar patterns or shapes (such as faces or eyes) in random objects

"The Lost Center - Art in Crisis" interests me because art, as reflected in the architecture and culture, cannot exist without a balance between what is man made and what is nature. An imbalance must be addressed whenever conflicts occur between the needs of human beings and the stability of the Earth's ecosystems and its resources. The world's resources are not unlimited, and extreme climate changes occur as a response to the rapid depletion of those resources. That is why there is a movement away from fossil fuels to solar, wind and hydroelectric power. They are renewable energy sources that reduce and then eliminate hydrocarbons in the atmosphere that ultimately cause drastic changes in temperature, and the Earth's climates overall. The mining of strategic minerals and the utilization of water are other critical factors that adversely change the Earth's biodiversity. This would ultimately decide the fate of all species of animals and vegetation. The extinction factor becomes a very real existential threat due to climate change worldwide.
I have never before participated in the BIEAF. This is my first time. I'm a New York City photographic artist, and I heard about this art festival on Facebook, so I decided to enter my work. I am a life-long artist and resident of New York and I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan near Columbia University. I take my inspiration from the natural world around me, even though I live in an entirely urban environment. I believe that the man-made world we, as human beings, have created must co-exist peacefully and in harmony with the natural world. There can be no peace unless our man-made communities work and respect the natural environment from which we derive our urban world. We have always been dependent on a stable natural world for the diverse cultures that have evolved due to our presence for thousands of years on this Earth. It appears that stability is being threatened by negative human activities. If Earth ceased to exist today, then all life and all culture would be extinguished. That is the simple truth. There is no culture of any kind without the natural world.

My photographic entry is titled "Impact Point". It's an abstraction created by taking a subject out of the normal context of its actual surroundings; in this case, of a piece of aggregated mineral from a museum exhibit, where the surface smoothness reflected a bright ceiling light on the surface of the aggregated mineral. The visual effect reminded me of the cataclysmic meteor blast over the Yucatan Peninsula that resulted in the worldwide extinction of the dinosaurs more than 60 million years ago.

My work has continued from welding scrap metal objects to terracotta made by molding clay and firing it, photo collage made by attaching photographs to everyday objects, environmental sculptures, land art, and natural ecology works. In these various changes in style, the Word has been consistently embodied, and after the period of proclamation and testimony, it has appeared as a dialectical work of truth, and as practical and participatory art. I call the fruits of this work ‘logos-ism’ sculpture, and I will select several works standing on that horizon and exhibit them in line with the theme of the 2025 BIEAF, the loss of the center. I see that at some point, my sculptures have been considering the environment and communication, growing in size and weight, but losing depth of consciousness. It would be a reward and a joy if my work could be
remembered as a challenge to and reversal of the frivolity, loss of soul, and absence of truth that contemporary sculptures have.

Oh Eui-seok's , subtitled "The Original Creation of Humans and a Formative Exploration of the Future," brings to mind the account in Genesis where the Creator created the heavens and earth by forming a human form out of clay and giving life through his breath. According to this Christian worldview, humans are descendants of clay. When their finite lives end, humans return to clay. Compared to the infinite vitality of clay, fire is closely related to civilization. Humans were able to evolve only after receiving fire from Prometheus. Oh Euii-seok's works are based on this mythical worldview, shaping clay to create forms and baking them. Therefore, his works are highly contemplative and meditative. His work shows the process of tracing the Creator's creative acts. By confessing that he works with the earnestness of a craftsman who prays that his work may be elevated to religious sublimity, he is asking himself what value his work can have in an age of value-absence. - Excerpt from Choi Tae-man, Today's Korean Sculpture, p. 333, (Korean Art Yearbook Publishing, 1995) -

Even when I try to avoid them, I end up facing them—an inevitable confrontation that becomes a kind of rite of passage. Accepting, healing, reigniting, and transforming—these stages unfold on my canvas like entries in a diary. This cyclical act is not just a process; it is a vital ritual that keeps me alive.
예민하게 깨어 있는 교감신경은 내 시선을 끊임없이 다른 방향으로 이끈다. 하지만 역설적으로, 위험하고 불안한 것들에 더욱 깊이 끌린다. 피하고 싶지만 결국 마주할 수밖에 없는 그것들과의 충돌은, 나에게 있어 중요한 통과의례이기도 하다. 받아들이고, 회복하며, 다시 감정을 점화하고 치유해 나가는 그 모든 과정을 나는 마치 일기처럼 캔버스에 기록한다. 이 반복은 나를 살아 있게 하는, 반드시 필요한 행위다.

Eva Rehák is a Slovak-born visual artist whose second home is now Switzerland. She has been dedicated to art since childhood, completing 8 years of formal training under professional guidance. Although she explored various styles and techniques, she became particularly captivated by ink drawing — tiny lines and dots that demand patience and precision. Her unique pen-and-ink style remains central to her work, even when combining it with watercolors, acrylics, oils, or pastels. She creates spontaneously and intuitively, which makes her artworks diverse in theme, yet always marked by her distinctive pen strokes. Currently, she is also focused on textile painting, developing her own original fashion collection. Eva is also a professional makeup artist who collaborates with photographers, modeling agencies, and events both in Switzerland and internationally. Whether through a brush on canvas or a makeup palette, colors are an essential part of her world.

Emerging from a landscape torn between flame and ruins, two ethereal figures face each other — one rooted in a burning tree-ike form, the other surrounded by collapsing urban remnants. The composition reflects a fractured self, born from conflict, survival, and memory. The presence of decayed cities, the all-seeing eye, and a staircase climbing through the body of the figure symbolize the lingering aftermath of war — particularly the lived and inherited trauma of generations in Iran.
Yet through vibrant textures and organic forms, the painting resists despair, reaching toward imagination, healing, and the rediscovery of identity within devastation.
born in 1981 in Tehran, is an Iranian painter with a Master's degree in Painting from the Faculty of Art and Architecture, Islamic Azad University. I'm a permanent member of the Iranian Painters Association and an honorary member of the Institute for Promotion of Visual Arts. My artistic practice is rooted in figurative, surreal, and expressionist painting, often exploring identity, memory, and emotional states. I held several solo exhibitions in Tehran and participated in more than 50 group exhibitions in Iran, the UK, Turkey, and Georgia. I’m also served as a curator, art director, and workshop organizer, contributing significantly to Iran’s contemporary art scene. I held four solo painting exhibition in Iran

For me, The Lost Center represents the fading connection between humans and their myth, land, and cosmic order — a spiritual dislocation shaped by modern crises. In my work, I revisit the legend of Arash the Archer as an act of return to that lost center: a moment where sacrifice, destiny, and nature (Mount Damavand, the sky, and the stars) align with meaning. By integrating ancient symbols and astronomical patterns, I aim to reconnect the viewer with the forgotten harmony between human, earth, and cosmos.
I am active in the field of painting and resin art. I work as a school art teacher, an international peace ambassador, and an entrepreneur.

Fatih Sungurtekin (b. 1977, Çorum, Turkiye), is a conceptual visual artist exploring memory, time, and perception through layered abstraction. A Marmara University Fine Arts graduate, he blends traditional and contemporary techniques. Sungurtekin, who has participated in national and international exhibitions, examines the dissolution of collective memory and urban heritage. With his "Moment and Memory" concept, he transforms personal and collective elements into a visual cosmology, blending the visible and hidden. He continues his artistic work in Muğla, Turkiye.

My name is Fatima, a 20-year-old self-taught artist from Pakistan, deeply inspired by the intricate beauty and quiet poetry of nature. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the colors of the sky, the textures of leaves, the dance of light and shadow — and art became the language through which I express this obsession. Without any formal training, I’ve spent years experimenting, observing, and learning through intuition and passion. My creative journey is rooted in a strong emotional connection with the natural world. Whether it’s the stillness of a forest or the wild rhythm of the sea, nature speaks to me — and I translate that voice into lines, forms, and color. My work often explores themes of growth, solitude, and wonder, combining soft palettes and organic shapes to reflect the harmony I find outdoors. As a Pakistani artist, I’m also inspired by the rich cultural textures of my surroundings — the earthy tones, intricate patterns, and deep traditions subtly echo through my art. Through every piece, I aim not just to create something visually pleasing, but to offer a small moment of calm, curiosity, or connection — something real in a world moving too fast. The muted palette of greys and soft earth tones is broken only by scattered bursts of color, perhaps remnants of life once lived — drying clothes dancing on the wind, a soft echo of human presence in nature’s vast silence. The brushstrokes are expressive and layered, giving depth to the sky and water, while the reflection of the boat suggests a world just beneath the surface — half-seen, half-imagined. I believe that art is a means of resistance and adaptation to the difficulties of the human condition. Artistic expression restores the connection between human beings and the world they live in, allowing them to once again become the center of that world and to face global crises with a renewed perspective.

Fedia Lahmar, born on January 7, 1973, in Paris, is a Tunisian painter. She studied at ITAAUT, specializing in painting, and graduated in the class of 1995. She holds a PhD in Art Technologies and is an assistant professor at the National School of Architecture and Urbanism in Tunis. Since 2001, she has regularly participated in group exhibitions. In November 2022, she held a solo exhibition titled Réminiscence. Her recent work focuses primarily on the representation of the human body as a means to express various emotional states.

This work is part of my ongoing exploration of the representation of the human body and the expression of emotional states. The image features a series of stylized human silhouettes, scattered across an imaginary space. The forms are both statuesque and evanescent—some are integrated into the background, while others seem to emerge from the canvas. In terms of color, the palette is deliberately contrasting. The painting evokes a kind of symbolic landscape, where the figures appear more as presences than actual characters. The vegetal forms and vertical lines suggest a connection between the human and nature, between the material and the immaterial.

Así que muy agradecido de la invitación y es honor participar desde este lejano país que es Chile y poder aportar con estas tres obras a vuestra disposición para tan magno evento mundial.
Felipe Drago Suárez, Artista Visual. Master en educación artística, profesor en artes visuales y tecnología. Miembro de arte México internacional y representante en Chile de Mai Colombia Internacional y socio de Apech (Asociación pintores y escultores de Chile) Desde 1987 tiene numerosas muestras colectivas e individuales, nacionales e internacionales. El 2017 recibe un reconocimiento Internacional de la Asociación Intercultural London de Córdova España como artista y promotor cultural en pro de las artes y su difusión ;destacándose como gestor de la muestra internacional “el color de los sonidos” la cual fueron convocados 84 artistas de América y Europa con exposición itinerante en cuatro regiones diferentes de Chile (Santiago, Viña del mar, Paine, Talca). El 2024 hizo su 26° exposición individual “Sintérgica” en la galería de arte del Palacio Rioja en Viña del Mar,

La obra circunda lo esotérico motivado por el complejo conocimiento del ser con transfiguraciones metafóricas que revelan analogías simbólicas alusivas a lo metafísico como cuestionamiento a la falsa moral del tiempo. Son sentimientos de inquietud o plenitud en un contexto existencial y social que se relacionan en pareidolias creando diversos puntos de vista para despertar consciencia estética con relaciones aparentemente invisibles, lugares incognoscibles pero imaginables que invitan la exigencia de investigar y renovar incógnitas desde los inicios de la civilización sumeria a lo espiritual del ser contemporáneo para sugerir la perspicacia de la reflexión sarcástica, simbólica y existencial. Su estética se interesa en lo onírico, espiritual y fantástico que escapa del naturalismo mimético. El ser y su entorno fragmentan códigos áuricos extendidos en energías que derivan a una simultaneidad como unidad abstracta, pero a la vez ese inconmensurable misterio son destellos paranormales que conlleva el ente humano. El color se transforma no sólo en un método sino también en cuerpo y componente, es un drenaje de miradas a través de una libertad expresiva apartada de convencionalismos, pues se representan conceptos que tienen varios niveles de significación, es decir, que su sentido no se agota en un solo significado literal, sino que abarcan toda una gama demótica. Hay un fenómeno central en que cuerpo y espíritu, símbolo y significación son abstracciones de cariz existencial. El ser no es una cosa, sino la vinculación con las cosas la percepción espacial y su prójimo que configuran el poder estructurador de ser en el mundo donde lo infinito se hace visible. el contenido que desarrolla Felipe Drago, es una reflexión pictórica que busca un encuentro con lo primigenio y lo cósmico, esa transmutación espiritual que producían los antiguos chamanes con pequeños accesorios rústicos y que mediante un lenguaje oculto lograban manejar los elementos y curar los males humanos. Su trabajo pictórico es más que la representación de formas y colores en la tela, a él lo anima la alquimia, troca el pigmento cromático con su energía interior, para que la resultante se conecte con la fuente primordial que nace de su imaginario. La composición en la obra del artista se maneja intuitivamente, el color es el que indica y da coordenadas al impulso interno que el artista tiene en el acto pictórico, esto varía de acuerda la conexión preestablecida por la temática que ha ido abordando, que pueden ser ideas de espacios inciertos llenos de atmósfera cromática y signos o personajes que sugieren lo étnico, cósmico y lo tribal.

Ferdinand R. Doctolero ttended College of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines. My art has been showcased in-group exhibits since 1978 at local and international galleries and through solo exhibits since 1990. My works are still being exhibited in permanent collections of banks, museums and as part of private collections.

1980 yılında Ankara'da doğdu. 1997'de Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt Kız Meslek Lisesi Resim Bölümü'nü, 2001 yılında ise Hacettepe Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi Seramik ve Cam Bölümü'nü başarıyla tamamladı. 2002- 2003 yıllarında Ankara Çankaya Halk Eğitim Merkezi'nde seramik ve resim alanlarında usta öğretici olarak görev aldı. 2004'te Ankara Selami Yazıcı Sanat Galerisi'nde sanat danışmanı olarak çalıştı. 2005 yılında, Ankara Nüans Seramik Sanat Atölyesi'nde çalışmaya başlarken, aynı zamanda Hacettepe Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Seramik ve Cam Bölümü Yüksek Lisans Programı'ndan da mezun oldu. Frauke Seemann grew up in Moers, located on the Lower Rhine, near Holland. She studied ethnology and art in Berlin, and following that, studied German, art, and sports education in Flensburg, upon which she received her first state examination for teaching. Finally, she studied visual arts in Kiel, receiving a degree in painting. Since 1992, Frauke Seemann has been living and working in Cologne, having travelled extensively in Europe, Mexico, the U.S., Belize and Guatemala. She has received numerous scholarships, including from the following: the Künstlerhaus Schleswig-Holstein, the Werkstatt Plettenberg and Nord-West Lotto, which also included an artist residency in New York for three months. Her works can be found in a variety of private and public collections. She has also exhibited her work on a continual basis in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Brussels, Netherlands, USA, South-East Asia and Iran. Since 2002 does she also work as an art and german teacher in school, reaching her second state examination for teaching. Now she lives and works in Cologne, Germany and Groningen, NL. I have been working in the field of painting and graphics for a long time. Form and color are my main focus. I work relatively fluidly from the gut, but in between I step back and contemplate my results. My pictures are worked on while lying on the floor. At the beginning there is always the picture and color surface, further "traces" emerge in the process - "flow".
I leave traces on the canvas or, alternatively, on the paper, similar to the traces of the day/life. Inner experiences flow into this process, much like diary entries. I usually work on several canvases/papers at the same time, the creative process can take a long time, sometimes months. I try to access not only conscious but also unconscious thoughts and feelings. I reject art as a pure idea or concept, the head rather complements the gut and the feelings. I am part of the emotional painting process - I step back and reflect from a distance.
Disruptions - in terms of style, content and technique - are planned or arise during the process. I don't avoid decoration, but rather enjoy it, as for me it is part of the painting process and the handling of colors. In this respect, there is contact with applied art and design, which I do not reject as "everyday art" in the sense of the Bauhaus.
Incorporating language and embroidering as pictorial elements stems from the fact that I am trying to expand traditional painting. I started painting when, as a young woman on a trip to Guatemala, I saw the colorful, self-woven fabrics of the indigenous women. For me, this was painting in a different form and culture, and the intense colors in particular inspired me to create my own work.
Embroidery also underlines the meditative character of my paintings, as it is a relatively slow process and allows you to calm down. I am also interested in superimposing different layers and patterns, some of which have little to do with each other. This is part of my current experience of the world. I see and experience many things in the present that are superimposed, shifted so to speak, but do not actually fit or belong together. Here, too, I try to expand traditional painting. At the same time, however, I also try to stay with myself and my female or individual self. This means that my works are neither large, aggressive nor political in a direct sense.

I’m a photographer. I live in Dronten, Flevoland, Holland since 1992. It is a ‘50 years young‘ part of The Netherlands, mostly an agriculture polder. My home is built on the old sea bottom 5 meters below sea level. I’m a humanist and like to travel, meet other cultures. As artist I’m involved with different national and international art projects, often involved in the organization of all, so I met a lot of artists from all over the world.

Transgender artist since 2011 their work explores the connections between gender and ecology from a queer perspective. Their experimental and transdisciplinary practice is based on performance and live art and includes video, music, and graphic art. Their performances and video art have been shown in festivals and exhibitions at the Venice Biennale, the Edinburgh International Festival, ICA (London), CCCB and MACBA (Barcelona), Zinegoak (Bilbao), Border Cultural Centre (Mexico, CDMX) and IVAM (Valencia). Since 2009 they have been organising exhibitions, workshops and conferences as part of La Erreria (House of Bent), a queer art collective and space.

The Lost Center speaks to a world that has drifted from its emotional, cultural, and spiritual anchors. My sculptural work reflects this through garments shaped in clay, absent of bodies, yet full of memory. These silent vessels echo the crisis of disconnection, where presence lingers but the center is gone.

My name is Hanna Lysenko, and I am an artist and educator from Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. In 2002, I graduated from college with a degree in Fine and Decorative Arts. Later, I earned a Master's degree in Pedagogy from the Classical Private University in Zaporizhzhia. In 2023, I completed my postgraduate studies at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, and in 2024, I successfully defended my dissertation, obtaining a PhD in Art Studies. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Psychology. My research interests lie in the fields of art and art therapy. For many years, I have been working as a lecturer at the Department of Design at Khortytsia National Educational and Rehabilitation Academy. Alongside my academic career, I am actively engaged in artistic practice. I am passionate about painting and watercolor, exploring these art forms in depth. I have participated in regional and international exhibitions. I have recently begun working on a series of paintings titled "Breath of the Elements". This series is a visual exploration of the primal forces of nature as a metaphor for the inner world of a person. I use the language of elemental forms, movement, and color to convey the universal rhythms of existence — breath, pulsation, and transformation. Each work captures a moment of transition between states: light and darkness, calm and motion, emergence and dissolution. These images do not depict literal nature but rather archetypal sensations of elemental breath, present in both the cosmos and the human spirit. I am pleased to present my works from this series, arranged in reverse chronological order, from the most recent to the earliest:

This painting presents a dynamic celestial landscape, rendered with voluminous, textured impasto strokes. Ascending clouds are depicted in rich blue-green hues, punctuated by vibrant yellow and pink accents. A luminous white sun radiates from the left, while the horizon is imbued with warm orange-yellow tones. The work effectively conveys the grandeur and motion of elemental forces.

For me, photography is a window into reality and part of a social narrative. My photos are mostly B&W and I use digital image editing software.
BIEAF2025's "Lost Center - Art in Crisis" is not only important in this chaotic atmosphere we live in, but it is also a cry for help for the future. Art is one way go forward to srtenghten the Center. Art is for to speek and ask.

The world is increasingly chaotic, and it seems that we have lost our understanding of history and its consequences for the environment and our daily lives. What are we doing to nature and humanity? In my B&W photograph, an old building has collapsed after a devastating fire. The structures of the room speak of pain, violence and loss of life. The view reflects the echoes of a past world and the grief experienced. In the midst of chaos, there are also signs of hope and light. That is what art is for.

Born in Adana in 1987, he entered the Painting Department of Mustafa Kemal University in 2004, transferred to the Painting and Crafts Education Department of the same university in 2007 and completed his education in 2011. In 2012, he was appointed to the Ordu Provincial Directorate of National Education and began his official duty. He opened his first personal exhibition there. In 2016, he was appointed to the Gaziantep Şehitkamil district. In 2019, he worked at Gaziantep Aysel İbrahim Akınal Anatolian High School and in 2022, he won the Painting MA Department at Mersin University. He still continues his duty in Gaziantep. He has participated in various group exhibitions and opened his first personal exhibition at the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Art Center in 2014, and opened a personal street exhibition in the Osho district of America in 2019. He has produced works on life, psychology and sociology.
