When I first encountered the theme From Sun to Boys, I thought of nature as agift to us. This led me to ask, “What about From Boys to Sun?” In that reversal,I found a connection to Between Us, the series I am currently developing.

Solitude Beneath the Blue Hills

Acrylic on Canvas  152 cms x 122 cms  2026

Description of the work :

Dominated by saturated ultramarine blues, the landscape constructs adreamlike terrain where natural forms verge on abstraction. The rolling hills, covered with repeated vertical strokes, evoke textural rhythms rather thanliteral vegetation, suggesting a deliberate move toward pattern and mark-making. Their uniformity creates a hypnotic surface, yet also risks visualmonotony, making the luminous foreground all the more critical.
The river, rendered in fluid, reflective blues, acts as the painting’scompositional spine, it guides the viewer’s eye inward, offering a sense ofmovement that counters the static repetition of the hills. The artist’s handlingof water is particularly effective: the reflective quality introduces subtle tonalshifts, preventing the blue palette from becoming overly flat.
The most striking intervention is the cluster of yellow green trees on the smallisland. This chromatic rupture injects vitality and establishes a focal point withstrong emotional resonance. The contrast is almost theatrical—an intentionalspotlight within an otherwise nocturnal world. It suggests renewal, hope, orsanctuary, depending on the viewer’s interpretive lens. Yet one might arguethat the intensity of this contrast borders on abrupt, creating a visualhierarchy so dominant that it overshadows the surrounding landscape.
The painting succeeds in crafting a surreal environment where color becomesnarrative. Its strengths lie in atmosphere, contrast, and controlled abstraction, though a more varied treatment of the mid-ground forms could enhancestructural complexity.

A Quiet Resentment

Acrylic on Canvas 60X 60 cm  2026

Description of the work : This painting emerges from my reflection on coexistence and quietconnection within nature. At the center, a flowering tree stands within anarched frame, suggesting both a window and a sacred space. It represents aplace of inner stillness where life continues to grow, gently and persistently. The birds in this work are not merely decorative forms; they are observers, companions, and silent participants in this shared environment. The smallerbirds resting within the tree embody a sense of belonging, while the twolarger birds below gaze upward, suggesting a moment of attention, longing, orquiet (dialogue) with nature. My background in craft deeply influences this composition. The intricatepatterns, repeated floral motifs, and ornamental borders draw from textiletraditions, where every detail carries rhythm and care. Through this process, Itry to create a surface that feels meditative—where repetition becomes aform of contemplation. The presence of flowers and fish extends the idea of interconnected life.Different elements—air, water, and earth—exist together within a single visualspace, without boundaries. This reflects my belief that all forms of life share asubtle, continuous connection. Color plays an emotional role here. The vibranttones are balanced by a dark background, allowing the forms to emerge likememories—quiet yet luminous. I am interested in how beauty can holdstillness, and how stillness can carry meaning. This work is not about narrative in a direct sense. It is about creating a spacewhere the viewer can pause, breathe, and feel a sense of gentle harmony—where everything exists together, in a shared rhythm of life.

Morning Symphony (Hòa Tấu Ban Mai)

In Northwest Vietnam, as the old year gives way to the new, Mộc ChâuHighlands bloom with pink peach blossoms and white plum and pearblossoms. Artists travel there to immerse themselves in this beauty. At dawn, birds emerge from their nests, filling the mountains with songs that sound likea grand natural orchestra. Awakened by this harmony of color and music, Icaptured the moment in this painting, titled Morning Symphony.

I am Cao Bich Ngoc, a graduate of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, class of2009–2013. I am currently working as an Art teacher while continuing myartistic practice in oil painting and soft pastel. Teaching allows me to stayclose to the emotional world of children, and it deepens my interest in how artcan nurture memory, compassion, sensitivity, and the ability to perceive beauty. I have participated in several group exhibitions, sold artworks, and receivedinterest and commissions from a number of collectors. To me, painting is notonly a form of personal expression, but also a way to preserve and transmitenduring values: love, culture, family memory, and hope for the future. By joining this competition, I hope to bring the perspective of both an artistand an educator: gentle, feminine, emotionally layered, and directed towardchildren and the humanistic values we need to protect for future generations.

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

To me, BIEAF2026 “From Sun To Boy” suggests a journey from the source oflight, life, and natural energy to the future generation of human beings. TheSun is not only a symbol of light and life, but also a source of spiritualnourishment, awakening love, compassion, and creativity. The Boy representsinnocence, hope, and the artistic human being who receives that light andcarries it forward to protect the world.

As both an artist and an Art teacher, I feel deeply connected to this theme. Ibelieve art can help children and future generations learn to perceive beauty,to love, to remember their roots, and to live in greater harmony with nature, humanity, and culture. Through my work, I hope to convey a quiet yet enduringkind of light: the light of maternal love, family memory, care, and hope for thefuture.

In the Arms of Memory

Soft pastel  50x65 cm  2026

Description of the work : In the Arms of Memory approaches the BIEAF 2026 theme “From Sun To Boy”not through the direct image of the sun, but through a more intimate andenduring source of light: a mother’s love for her child. In the painting, a young mother is knitting beside her child’s cradle. The warm-colored threads evoke the color of sunlight, slowly woven through time, patience, and tenderness. To me, this act is not only about making a garmentto keep the child warm; it is also the weaving of an invisible shelter around thebaby — the mother’s “little sun,” and at the same time, an image of the futuregeneration. The thread suggests continuity: from the mother’s hands to the child, fromfamily memory to present life, from traditional values to hope for tomorrow. Ina rapidly changing world, I want to return to seemingly simple things: a cradle,a mother’s hands, the act of knitting, and the warmth of home. These aresymbols of care, preservation, and cultural transmission. If the sun is the source of life in nature, love is the source of life within thehuman soul. Through this work, I want to suggest that the future is protectednot only by great actions, but also by memory, culture, tenderness, and thecapacity to love — quietly nurtured from the very beginning of life.

About vilaage

Sculpture, ceramic  42cmx35cm  2026

This artwork portrays a humorous yet meaningful scene from traditional rurallife in Vietnam. The image captures a husband who has become drunk and, unable to walk steadily, clings to the tail of a horse. Meanwhile, his wife, havingreturned from the market, gently leads the horse home. Through this simpleeveryday moment, the artwork vividly reflects family life, village culture, andthe close bond between husband and wife. The contrast between the husband’s helpless condition and the wife’s calm, patient guidance creates a sense of warmth and lighthearted humor. Ratherthan criticizing the husband, the artwork emphasizes the understanding, tolerance, and care that often exist within family relationships. The wifebecomes a symbol of responsibility and devotion, while the husbandrepresents the imperfect yet familiar human side of everyday life. The horse also plays an important symbolic role. As a faithful companion inrural communities, it acts as a bridge connecting the couple and helping guidethem safely home. This element strengthens the feeling of security, belonging, and family unity. Through expressive forms and dynamic composition, the artwork not onlycaptures a memorable story but also celebrates the beauty of ordinary life. Itreminds viewers that art can be found in simple moments and that familyaffection is often revealed through small acts of care and understanding. Overall, the work combines humor, humanity, and cultural identity, offering avivid reflection of Vietnamese rural life while conveying universal values oflove, patience, and companionship.

Market 1 ,2 ,3

Lacquer  120x120 cm  2026

Description of the work : This evocative oil painting captures a bustling, vibrant marketplace scene, likely set in the mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam. The composition isbathed in a warm, radiant palette dominated by golden-yellow tones, whichimbue the entire canvas with a sense of sun-drenched atmosphere andtimeless energy. ### A Tapestry of Daily Life The painting is densely populated, showcasing a myriad of activities thatdefine life in a rural market. Small groups of people are scattered across theforeground and middle ground, depicted with a stylized, almost abstractapproach that emphasizes their collective movement rather than individualportraits. The figures, mostly women, are adorned in traditional ethnicclothing, accented with bright, singular touches of red headscarves andaccessories. These flashes of red act as visual anchors, guiding the viewer'seye across the busy scene. ### The Integration of Nature and Commerce Central to the composition is the presence of animals, which are seamlesslyintegrated into the human activity. Various horses, goats, and possibly cattleare interspersed among the people, reflecting the interconnectedness ofagricultural life and trade. Some animals are grazing or standing quietly, whileothers seem to be part of the commerce, waiting alongside their owners. Thepresence of these animals adds a dynamic, rustic texture to the painting, suggesting a place where the distinction between domestic life and themarketplace is fluid. ### Artistic Style and Technique The artist employs a post-impressionistic style, favoring expressive brushworkand color over hyper-realistic detail. The thick application of paint, or*impasto*, gives the surface a tactile quality. The lighting is particularlystriking; a large, glowing arc of brilliant yellow looms behind the figures, almost like a setting sun or a halo, casting a warm, enveloping light thatflattens the space and unifies the various elements. This golden light is theheartbeat of the painting, turning an ordinary scene of trade into somethingtranscendental and dreamlike. ### Atmosphere and Narrative The overall mood is one of industrious harmony. Despite the density of thefigures and animals, the scene does not feel chaotic; rather, it feels like a well-choreographed dance of everyday existence. There is a profound sense ofcommunity, tradition, and the rhythmic cycle of rural life. The painting invitesthe viewer to step into this golden, sun-baked world and witness the quietdignity of a culture deeply rooted in its landscape. It is a celebration of humanperseverance and the timeless simplicity of a market day, preserved in aneternal, glowing amber hue.

**Nalini Tayabji – Artist Profile** A lifelong creator, **Nalini Tayabji's** artistic journey began in childhood with a fascination for colour, form, and storytelling. From collecting and re-stringing vibrant glass beads to crafting handmade pop-up books and miniature cinemas, creativity became an integral part of her identity from an early age. Drawing before the age of five, she explored a variety of mediums over the years—pencil, coloured pencil, oils, and eventually watercolours, which became her true passion. Deeply inspired by Kangra Miniatures, the Krishna tradition, and the mastery of Chinese watercolour artists, her work reflects a sensitive understanding of colour, space, and emotion. Nalini's first solo exhibition was held at the Shridharani Gallery, New Delhi, in 1980, followed by a diverse career in teaching, entrepreneurship, jewellery design, and textile development in the Kumaon hills. Each experience enriched her artistic vision and strengthened her connection to craft, design, and aesthetics. Subsequent exhibitions at the India International Centre and The Attic further established her distinctive artistic voice. Her work celebrates imagination, whimsy, and the beauty hidden within everyday life. Whether through colour, shape, texture, or narrative, Nalini invites viewers to look beyond the surface and discover deeper layers of meaning. For her, art is not merely a practice—it is a way of seeing, understanding, and defining oneself.

The theme **"From Sun to Boy"** beautifully symbolizes the journey of light, hope, energy, and wisdom being passed from one generation to the next. It reminds us that every child carries within them the potential to shine, grow, and illuminate the world around them. The theme inspires optimism, creativity, and a deeper connection between nature, humanity, and the future.

Oil on canvas  20" X 30"  2025

Description of the work :

This painting celebrates the often overlooked beauty and spirit of Jaywick, afriendly seaside town in the United Kingdom that has long carried the label of“the most deprived seaside town.” That label reflects the shortcomings ofgovernment investment, not the character, dignity, or warmth of the peoplewho call Jaywick home.

The sun rays rising behind the town’s landmark symbolize hope — a reminderthat Jaywick’s story is not one of decline, but of potential, pride, and a brighterfuture.

The Value That Cannot on a Be Held in the Hand

Photography, Pigment Print   100x75cm   2025

Description of the work :

The Value That Cannot Be Held in the Hand / Ockyoung JungIn contemporary society, labor is reduced to commodity and number. Wemeasure value not by time and effort, but by possession and price. As moneytranslates labor into numerical form and brands shape desire, the lived time ofwork disappears behind images and consumption. In this work, I use the stone to represent invisible labor. Since the beginning ofcivilization, stone has been a tool of human work. Here, it embodies thematerial weight and temporality of labor—solid, resistant, and unquantifiable.Unlike money, it cannot be easily consumed or branded.

By placing stones on images of currency, I interrupt the logic of exchange andquestion a system that equates value with numbers. The stone stands forwhat resists commodification. This work asks whether labor can be measured only through price, andwhether time must be consumed to have meaning.

THE KEEPER

Acrylic On Paper  84cm X 60cm  2025

*1. The Figure*- *Golden/yellow skin*: In SE Asian art this tone often means life force, earth, orinner warmth. She glows against the cool background, like she’s the focal“light.”- *Closed/elongated eyes + calm face*: Not sad, not smiling. It feels likeintrospection, endurance, quiet dignity. Like someone who’s seen a lot butchooses calm.- *Red lips*: The only strong “human” accent. Speaks, asserts, or holds truth.Red also = passion, blood, voice.* 2. The Fruit & Nature*- *Green fruit in her hands*: Looks like guava or mangosteen. She’s holding itclose to her chest — protection, nourishment, heritage. It’s earthly andfeminine.- *Another fruit hanging with worms on the branch*: That’s the tension in thepiece. One fruit is cared for, the other is being eaten/rotting.This reads as duality: _what we preserve vs what decays_. Abundance vscorruption. Nature’s cycle.* 3. The Colors + Texture*- *Background: turbulent blues, turquoise, ochre*: Feels like weather, time, orsociety. Chaotic, layered, but she stays solid in the center.- *Thick, rough brushwork*: Nothing is smooth or perfect. That adds to thefeeling of resilience. Beauty that’s lived-in, not idealized.* "A woman as keeper"*She’s holding what is still good and whole, while decay happens around her.The painting seems to be about feminine resilience, about guarding culture, life, and truth in the middle of a world that’s both vibrant and rotting. The contrast between the ripe fruit in her hands and the worm-eaten one onthe branch makes it feel like a comment on: - *Preservation vs loss* - *Nurture vs neglect* - *Inner peace vs outer chaos*

Art is an escape from the realities of life—a refuge from pain and stress. It is arealm where time seems to stand still, allowing one to journey into a differentworld where paints and brushstrokes come together to tell stories, not ofillusion, but of the heart's deepest desires, peace, and freedom. Through art, emotions are expressed, experiences are shared, and imagination is broughtto life. It is truly a powerful and inspiring medium.

Waterfall

Acrylic on Canvas  15*×16*  2025

Description of the work :

Some places don’t ask you to hurry. The water slips off the rock like time youcan’t hold — soft, steady, unbothered. Moss grows where the stone admits it’stired. Sunlight finds the one gap in the trees just to remind the pool it’s stillloved. This is what healing looks like: not loud, not fast. Just constant. Justfalling, and landing, and starting again.

The sun represents the genesis of the universe and the dawn of all creation. The child symbolizes the "artist-human"—a spirit seeking to express the veryessence of nature

Description of the work : Mon oeuvre prend naissance dans un processus spontané fondé sur latechnique du dripping.

Pablo Montesinos’s visceral paintings transcend decoration to challenge andmove the viewer. Exploring the tension between the visible and hidden, eachwork is an emotional confrontation. This blend of raw emotion, memory, andpoetic coherence gives his art a rare density.

Description of the work :

The presented work is accompanied by a text that does not describe, butaccompanies and amplifies, transforming it into a sensory and intellectualexperience. It comes from that outside which is, and takes shape within theinside that we are.

It dialogues within the silence of absence and bursts into the (de)idealizationbrought by geographies. It transforms the course of time, oblivious to thenights orbiting the friction of an emotion that, perhaps, is reason.

THE LIGHT OF THE DIVINE

WATERCOLOUR WASH ON PAPER

22 x 30 inches  2025

"The Light of the Divine" , light itself is my true subject. I wanted to capturehow light flows down from a giant, snow-covered Himalayan peak and shinesgently onto an ancient fort at the bottom of the mountains. I organized thepainting into three distinct parts: the high sky and mountains, the rocky land, and the green trees below. Each section represents my patient, meditativejourney with watercolour washes. At the very top, I painted the massive mountain using bright whites and softpurple-greys. To make the snow look authentic, I intentionally left parts of thewhite paper unpainted. By mixing cool blues into lavender shadows, I aimed togive the mountain a grand, distant, and peaceful feel, almost as if it is blendingdirectly into the sky. Below the snowy peak, I shifted the mood. I placed a large hill in the frontcovered in deep, dark blue shadow to create a strong contrast. Right next to it,a tall cliff stands out in bright, golden sunlight. This is the heart of my painting.I applied layers of warm yellow, amber, and gold over and over to show the sunhitting the old rock, using tiny vertical brushstrokes to mimic natural cracks inthe stone. To me, this bright light piercing the dark shadow feels like a specialblessing from above. A thin, pale path or dry stream winds down the hill toward the old monasteryand fort, which sits quietly at the base of the mountain. I painted its thick, sloping walls with earth-colored stone to match traditional mountain castles.By making the fort catch the same warm sunlight as the cliff above, I wantedto beautifully connect human history with the enduring spirit of nature. At the very bottom, I introduced a thick group of tall poplar trees in brightgreen. This sudden burst of lively color highlights the fertility of the valley, showing where life thrives on water from melting glaciers. It took me about 30 days and countless careful layers of washing and fixing tocomplete this artwork. This gradual process is what gives the mountain its softglow, the cliff its heavy warmth, and the valley its lively green color. Ultimately,I wanted the final painting to feel massive and perfectly still—a sacred placewhere ancient stone and holy light meet in quiet peace.

The hot sea of subconscious mind

Acrylcolors on canvas  48X 56  2025

Description of the work :

This painting is from my psychological series, in which I depict an individual’semotions and journey through life’s dangerous and unexpected turns. In thegaze of the beast and in the embrace of the iceberg there are moments of danger, but also beauty and the possibility for human growth. Spiritual growthand learning happen at the intersection of safety and danger.

One’s own agency is essential in the process—not waiting for an externalmiracle worker, a Deus ex machina, but being active oneself. When you collidewith an iceberg, you face a choice: sink, freeze, or fight against the conditions, survive, rise to new heights—perhaps in a hot-air balloon.

Art as an experience can be a sacred and creative space where one can feeldifferent emotions and gain new, exciting insights—nourishment for ourhuman growth.

For BIEAF 2026 “From Sun To Boy”, my series reflects the theme byconnecting the generative power of the Sun (creation and life) with theArtistic Human (the Boy) who receives and expresses that light through art.The three paintings explore how divine/natural energy transforms into humandesire, awareness, and bodily experience. La Conquista shows the awaregame of seduction and pursuit. Mira, mi conciencia presents a sharp womanwith a cunning, serpent-like inner voice. Leda reinterprets Zeus becoming anelegant swan to seduce Leda, symbolizing transformation and the use ofbeauty to connect with and conquer the object of desire

Archer of Arash

Acrolic  30cm*30cm  2024

Description of the work :

Arash Kamangir (Arash the Archer), a legendary Iranian hero, is a symbol ofsacrifice and patriotism. His story dates back to the war between Iran andTuran; a time when, to determine the border between the two countries, it wasdecided that an Iranian archer would shoot an arrow from a mountaintop, andwherever it landed, that would be the border between Iran and Turan.

Arash volunteered for this task. With all his might and by sacrificing his life, heshot an arrow that flew from dawn till dusk, landing at a very distant point onIran's eastern borders (the Oxus River or Amu Darya). Through this act, Arashselflessly defined Iran's borders forever, inscribing his name as a symbol ofdevotion and bravery in Iranian history and culture. The Tirgan festival in Iran iscelebrated in commemoration of this epic.
