Through these paintings, I seek to express my pride, joy, and deep respect forthe rich cultural heritage I have inherited as a Sri Lankan. My work celebratesthe unique identity, traditions, spiritual values, and artistic legacy that havebeen passed down through generations. As both an artist and an ordinary SriLankan, I feel a strong personal connection to these cultural roots, whichcontinue to shape my identity and inspire my creative practice. Each paintingreflects my admiration for the beauty, wisdom, and resilience of Sri Lankanculture while inviting viewers to appreciate and preserve the traditions thatremain an essential part of our shared heritage.
Chamini Weerasooriya is a renowned Sri Lankan visual artist who is currentlydeveloping and expanding her artisticjourney in India. Her work bridges tradition, spirituality, and contemporaryexpression. She holds a Bachelor of FineArts (BFA) from the University of Peradeniya and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA)from the University of Kelaniya. Aformer art teacher in the Sri Lankan government education system, Chaminihas made a significant mark as the firstfemale artist to work within the field of traditional Sri Lankan temple painting.While rooted in Sri Lanka, her artistic practice has become increasingly activein India, where exhibitions,collaborations, and cultural exchange have played a central role in shaping hercreative vision. Chamini has exhibitedwidely across India, South Korea, German ,Nepal, and Sri Lanka.Rooted in Buddhist philosophy, meditation, and spiritual inquiry, her workexplores the inner journey of liberationthrough a deeply personal and feminine perspective. Her paintings reflecthow worldly attachments become obstaclesto enlightenment, and how the spiritual path unfolds through both struggleand profound beauty.Her canvases frequently feature classical Sri Lankan Buddhist motifs andarchitectural elements such as moonstones,guard stones, stupas (dagobas), sacred sculptures, lotus flowers, Bodhileaves, swans, and the Dhamma Chakra.Rendered in vibrant, layered colour, her paintings evoke the serenity, joy, andtranscendence she envisions at theculmination of the spiritual journey.

길상화를 즐겼던 조선 민화의 한 소재였던 용은, 오복을 가지고 온다하여 벽사와 길상의 기능이담겨 가정의 행복을 지켜주는 지킴이로 민초들의 집안을 장식했다. 그 내면에는 민중의 삶과 꿈이 담겨있다.
행복을염원하는 상징성이 담긴 스토리텔링이 민화의 힘이다. 그 시대에는 흔하디흔한 팝아트였지만 익숙한 것을 낯설게 보는나의 작품 방향에 민화는 눈에 띄었다.용과 함께 책거리가 함께 배치되었다.책거리는 무중력 그 자체이다. 어떤 끌림 없이 자유롭다. 꿈과 희망을 품기 위해 현실에 얽매임없이 둥둥 떠다니는 의지가 느껴지도록 한다.

Artist Introduction The artistic universe of Chris Bleicher is a vibrant expression of joy,imagination, experimentation and a deep connection between humanity,nature and contemporary life. Guided by the personal conviction “My art is myobsession,” the artist has dedicated her life to exploring new visual languagesbeyond conventional boundaries. In May 2025, the Haegeumgang Theme Museum in Geoje, South Korea,established a permanent Bleicher Memorial, featuring her personal objectsand selected artworks. This exceptional recognition was bestowed during herlifetime and reflects her significant international artistic contribution.Furthermore, she served for three consecutive years as a jury member for theannual Geoje International Art Festivals organized by the Haegeumgang Theme Museum. Her artistic achievements have been acknowledged worldwide throughnumerous appointments, awards and international honors. Her works anddocuments are also archived in the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome and the Women’s Museum in Bonn, Germany. The inspiration for her artistic creations arises from extensive journeys acrossAfrica, Asia, China, India, Canada, the Caribbean, Central and South America,the South Pacific, South Korea and the United States. These encounters withdiverse cultures, landscapes and traditions have shaped a unique artisticlanguage rich in color, symbolism and emotion. Through her work, she aims to inspire optimism, awaken fantasy and influencepeople positively through the power of colors and forms. She believes in theharmony of exoticism, eroticism, ecology and humor, always combined withthe courage to experiment. Often years ahead of contemporary trends, she became Germany’s first neonartist to create and paint artistic urns and coffins for humans and animals,establishing the concept of Urn Art. Her pioneering internet project “peepart”anticipated today’s global live-streaming culture approximately seventeenyears before it became a widespread phenomenon. For more than two decades, the artist has actively promoted environmentalawareness through artistic actions and media happenings, combining natureand technology. At its center appears an eye containing a spiral – an ancient symbol ofawareness, wisdom, infinity and the continuous cycle of life. From this focalpoint, flowing lines expand like streams of energy, transforming into plants,mysterious creatures, human features and dreamlike landscapes. A hiddenface emerges from the intricate botanical structures, expressing the profoundunity between humanity and the natural world. The deliberate absence of color strengthens the expressive power of thework. Every stroke of the ink pen reveals the artist’s patience, precision andspontaneous creativity. The richness of details encourages quiet observation,allowing each viewer to discover individual meanings and personal emotionswithin the composition. The drawing reflects Bleicher’s artistic vision: a celebration of fantasy, exoticworlds, ecology, spirituality and the endless transformation of life. ARTIST'S STATEMENT: I live in Greece and art has always been my passion. Ienjoy painting, especially with oil and acrylic colors. From still lifes to portraitsand scenes of everyday life, abstract compositions with their own meaning.My work moves by playing between the boundaries: reality and emotion. Timein my artworks is free; it could be now, yesterday, and tomorrow. It does notconstitute a straight line but something fluid, something ambiguous. I seekthe feeling of the moment rather than the moment itself, as my inspirationcomes from everywhere. The same applies to color, which can speak its truthin different and sometimes varied ways, as it is an experience and not meremathematics. This is exactly why the viewer’s gaze is very important. Theinterpretation of the works depends on the viewer’s inner eye and freedom.Meaning is completed not only through the artist but also through the eyes ofthe one who looks at it. A painting is not a letter with a fixed message; it is anopen space, and within it, everyone brings themselves, their experiences, andtheir freedom. It is an open space for the imagination. The conclusion issimple: every work becomes and is a living mirror. What it provokes in us saysmore about us, ultimately becoming a journey of self-discovery. The answerregarding the truth shown by the colors of each work is unique for everyone. "From Sun to Boy": In the context of both art and ecology, the sun is theoriginal canvas and the ultimate source of energy. By reimagining the sunthrough the eyes of a mother, the theme of the exhibition inspires me to viewenvironmentalism not just as a duty, but as an act of reciprocal love andnurturing. It reminds me that every spark of life on Earth is an extension of thissolar warmth. The "boy" represents in my opinion the innocence of the nextgeneration and the soul of an artist. The boy inherits the light. This inspires usin a powerful sense of ecological responsibility: the sunshine falling on theshoulders of the next generation is both a gift of hope and a call to protect thedelicate balance of the world that the next generation inherits. True creationcannot exist in isolation from nature. By combining art and ecology, this themeinspires me as an artist to act for the planet's voice. It shows that artisticexpression is a reflection of the heart of the world—a vital tool to awakenenvironmental consciousness, heal our relationship with the Earth and passdown a vibrant, living planet to the future. It is the depiction of a "Mother Sun" - anurturing creator that envelops the Earth in vital warmth and abundance. Okosi Chukwuma Joseph is a Nigerian visual artist from Onitsha, AnambraState, and a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). His practicecombines painting and sculpture, with a particular interest in oil, acrylic,recycled, and repurposed materials. Description of the work : Me centro en el estudio del psicólogo Donald Winnicott sobre el objetotransicional, el cual nos hace prestar atención a la importancia de estoselementos de nuestra vida cotidiana, que forman parte primordial de nuestrodesarrollo emocional y psicológico, objetos tales como mantas, chupetes o enmi caso personal peluches. Muy lejos de ser simples juguetes o elementos decompañía, estos elementos son una preciada herramienta que ayuda aconstruir la identidad individual del infante y es la única que logra facilitar congran éxito la desvinculación y dependencia absoluta de la figura materna,además de hacernos conscientes del espacio que habitamos y de nosotrosmismos, nos enseña los fundamentos básicos de una sociedad, por ejemplo, arelacionarnos o conocer el concepto de posesión. Mi obra final se divide en dos partes: dibujo a gran escala de mis cinco osos depeluche, mi propio objeto transicional, y una línea temporal separada en trespartes iguales de mi primer peluche hasta el último en el que intentarérespetar el tamaño original de cada muñeco.

The work "Bong Dance" is inspired by a traditional festival, a unique culturalfeature of Trieu Khuc village. The most distinctive part of the festival is theBong dance, also known as "the prostitute playing the Bong," a unique culturalproduct and a source of pride for the local people. Legend has it that: to encourage the soldiers and to entertain them beforebattle, the general had his soldiers dress up as men and women and wearBongs (a type of small drum) to dance. This dance has been preserved for 13centuries by the local people. The dance is unique and captivating becausethe dancers must be men dressed as women, performing the movements withthe clear, graceful, and alluring charm of a woman. Yet, they still exude a masculine demeanor and a chivalrous spirit.The dance is a cultural heritage, both humorous and sacred, imbued withartistic merit. The five-colored tassels—black, red, blue, white, and yellow—symbolize thefive elements, representing the six elements encompassing the universe. Thehead represents the sky, the eyes the sun, the back the moon, the wings thewind, the feet the earth, and the tail the planets. This combination is based ontraditional principles, vibrant but not gaudy. When dancing, the five-coloredtassels flutter, creating graceful lines. These traditional folk cultural elementsare the inspiration for my work. To suit this traditional theme, I chose lacqueras the medium for my creation. The colors of the lacquerware perfectlycomplement the colors of folk festivals: vibrant but not gaudy. Thelacquerware itself is made from natural materials: white is derived fromeggshells, vermilion red from natural pigments, and yellow from gold leaf...combined with traditional lacquer techniques, creating a unique beautydeeply rooted in folk traditions.

이 작품은 오랫동안 익숙했던 예쁘게 그리기에서 벗어나 보려는 시도에서 시작됐다. 선을 미리 계획하지 않고 손이 움직이는 대로, 물감이 번지는 대로 그림을 그려나갔다. 완성된 그림을 다시 들여다보니 얽힌 흔적들 속에서 벌레의 다리와 더듬이, 혹은 이름 붙이기 어려운 괴물 같은 형상이 보이기 시작했다. 반복되는 붉은 눈 같은 형태들은 그림 속 낯선 존재가 오히려 보는 사람을 마주 보고 있는 듯 한 감각을 만들어낸다. 결국 이 작업은 계획과 통제를 내려놓았을 때에만 드러나는 형상과의 마주함에 관한 것이다.

Noble Demeanor is a work that intuitively combines the sculptural form of thetraditional Korean hat, gat, with the materiality of its visual medium. Goingbeyond a mere reproduction of the subject, it clearly and sculpturally revealsboth the temporality and formal characteristics inherent in the object.
The mother-of-pearl used in the piece consists of fragments taken from oldwardrobes collected over many years. Imbued with layers of time and memory,these fragments of objects undergo a process of delicate dismantling andselection to be reconstructed as a new visual layer upon the canvas.
The inherent properties of the mother-of-pearl, which shift from moment tomoment depending on the angle of light and the viewer’s gaze, lend a senseof depth and space to the flat surface. In this way, the mother-of-pearl, holdingan accumulation of time, harmonizes with the central figure of the catrendered in ink wash, structurally connecting the past with the present.

My connection to Korea is notmerely professional but soulful; having my works in Korean museumcollections since 2016 has created a permanent spiritual bridge. Through my'Golden Stroke,' I aim to reflect the nurturing energy of the Sun onto theinnocence of the Child, celebrating art as a universal language of healing andsecure attachment.

Born in 1978 in Moldova, I have always preferred images to words, and playingis my eternal favorite.
After studies at the Academy of Arts in Chisinau, and then at the ÉcoleNationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, I left Europe for Ecuador. There,suspended between mountains and jungle, I developed a singular artisticlanguage. The raw materiality of nature, the brilliance of light, and theimpermanence of the living have shaped my vision and nourished my practice.My work, regularly exhibited in Ecuador, France, Korea, Romania, Moldova,etc., invariably lingers on the unspeakable. It is a game of hide-and-seekbetween saying and remaining silent — a third way where figuration andabstraction intertwine. My production is essentially serial and follows intimaterhythms: I have painted on myself, about my pregnancies, to the sound ofTchaikovsky's Opus 35, or in a "melanomaniac" quest for black. This body ofwork, both diverse and almost eclectic, blends classically inspired oilpaintings, large-format watercolors, and drawings in all their technicalvariations.
Whatever the medium, I am always tracking the same thing: a sensation tocapture, to immobilize. My work oscillates between evanescence andanchoring, between the persistence of memory and the fluidity of the present.For it is not so much about telling a story as it is about feeling. The workremains open, like an enigma to be decoded.

Born on May 9, 1991, Dorota is a Visual Arts student at the University ofBusiness and Applied Sciences "Varsovia" in Warsaw, where she is currently inher second year of master's studies.
Her artistic education also includes an advanced-level concept art course,"Potęga Obrazu," which she completed just before the pandemic. InDecember 2024, she completed an art therapy course at "Procentrum."Besides her formal education in pedagogy, Dorota is also self-taught with astrong passion for art.
She has been painting since 2014, constantly developing her craft andexploring a variety of techniques. Her style is characterized by combiningtraditional techniques with digital art based on her own experiences. However,the artist does not limit herself to a single medium, experimenting with variousforms of expression and exploring new artistic means.
I'm a new participant in BIEAF, but the idea behind this year's theme, "FromSun To Boy," is very close to my heart. I interpret it as a story about light—itspower, its influence on humanity, and the role it plays in shaping ourimagination, dreams, and future.
The motif of light holds a special place in my work. It appears not only as avisual element but also as a symbol of hope, transformation, discovering newpossibilities, and following one's own path. In many of my works, light guidesthe protagonist, points the way, or becomes a metaphor for a goal that seemsdistant but remains within reach of dreams. Even in the depths of darkness, Ican see a glimmer of light.
Inspiration for this perception of light comes from both nature and popculture. Since childhood, I have been fascinated by stories in which lightsymbolizes courage and hope—from the light of Eärendil's star in Tolkien'sworks, to the luminous Patronus in the Harry Potter series, to contemporarystories where light helps characters find their identity and overcome adversity.Regardless of its form, it always remains a symbol of goodness, development,and faith in the future.
Therefore, I see the theme "From Sun to Boy" as a natural fusion of naturalenergy with the human experience. For me, the sun is a source of life,inspiration, and creative energy, and humanity is a symbol of the future andconstant development. This relationship is reflected in my paintings, whichspeak of dreams, emotions, discovering the world, and finding one's own light.
Participating in BIEAF2026 is an opportunity for me to share this perspectiveand join the international dialogue on the relationship between humans, art,and nature.

My work is my own creativity, my work is a mixture of abstraction and symbols.The fusion style of miniature with nature themes in art has almost always beenpresented by artists and its depiction can be literal or abstract. Conveying asense of its depth or perspective remains my main objective. The depiction ofnature through art can be used in a special form for better consideration,which is not only a symbol of excellence but also a symbol of curiosity for theunknown. Depictions of nature may also be about intellectual thought and spirituality.
I have found nature to play a major role and a source of inspiration for myvisual language. I connect with things in nature that are tangible referencesand use them simply because it's one of the most tactile things. My art is notjust an attempt to imitate nature, but also to discover the invisible experiencesthat are not actually visible in real life and by taking a visual cue from theactual forms of nature by observation and by reflecting on natural phenomenaand natural forms. My paintings incorporate a unique visual vocabulary comprising componentsof nature, women and culture reflecting their underlying social layers. Formand color acquire a more aesthetic component, open to multipleinterpretations, giving simple and artistic meaning to human activity in variousroles and activities.
In my work abstract art is an experience in which one has to abandonprejudices and ideas and put things into words or visuals, and the artworkgives you a unique experience. Lines, form, color, texture, pattern, structureand process define its formal qualities and the exploration of these formalqualities is the purpose of my art.
