The sun symbolizes light, hope , life, love, warmth, safety, and creation.Inspired by the childhood tale The Child Who Lost the Sun, I imagined a sun ascomforting as a home, as loving as a family, and as joyful as a balloon,revealing the beauty of nature. The child protects the sun inside a balloon,carrying its light and love everywhere, then passes the string to the nextgeneration, ensuring these values endure.

Esta obra integra-se num conjunto de trabalhos realizados a partir da poesiade autores portugueses. Nela foram utilizadas diferentes técnicas de forma aobter uma mensagem em termos de texturas, cor e luz. O jogo com os planosfoi também um objetivo procurado. Na base está o poema de Mário de Sá-Carneiro com o mesmo título, "Dispersão" e alguns dos versos fazem parte doquadro, utilizando as letras como elemento visual, sem que se destaquem emdemasia, sob pena de a tela passar a ser o suporte de um poema em vez deser uma pintura... daí as transparências para que os versos se diluam noconjunto.

Through metamorphosis—an “artistic style that has evolved over the courseof my artistic journey”— I begin with color and arrive at rebirth. The figuresinterlock in a synthetic form because nothing exists on its own; everything isconnected. From this awareness, “Spéranza” and “Unione” are born.“Speranza” is the first breath after the fracture. It is the metamorphosis of paininto possibility. In a defining moment, a figure emerges: synthetic, essential. Itis the seed that endures. It is the children’s gaze toward the future we stillwant to save. “Unione” is the answer. While decay divides, art brings us backtogether. Bodies, earth, and symbols interlock until they become a singleorganism. Because only together can we regenerate. Only together can wegive our children a world that is not just ruin, but rebirth.

To me, "Türkiskorallen 1 + 2" , and also the global artfestival "From sun to boy",symbolise a sense of movement and dynamism amongst us internationalfellow artists and exhibitions. This atmosphere stands out positively againstthe current general politic climate, which for me seems to be characterised bythe pursuit of power and greed for profit. This gives rise to hope and positivecommunication, that are desperately needed right now!
Frauke Seemann was born in 1960 in Duisburg, North-Rhine-Westfalia. She grew up in Moers,located on the Lower Rhine, near the dutch border. She studied ethnology and art in Berlin, and following that, studied German,art, and sports education in Flensburg, upon which she received her first stateexamination for teaching. Finally, she studied visual arts in Kiel, receiving adegree in painting. Since 1992, Frauke Seemann has been living and working in Cologne,Germany, having travelled in Europe, Mexico, the USA, Belize, Guatemala,Indonesia and Malaysia.She has received numerous scholarships, including from the following: theKünstlerhaus Schleswig-Holstein, the Werkstatt Plettenberg and Nord-WestLotto, which also included an artist residency in New York for three months.Her works can be found in a variety of private and public collections. She hasalso exhibited her work on a continual basis in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Brussels, Netherlands, USA, South-East Asia and Iran.Since 2002 does she also work as an art and german teacher in school,reaching her second state examination for teaching. Now she lives and works in Cologne and Groningen, the Netherlands. She ismember of the BBK (Berufsverband Bildender Künstler*innen Germany), theIGBK (Internationale Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst Germany) and the l‘ArtInternational group of Iran.

About my work I have been working in the field of painting and graphics for a long time. Formand color are my main focus. I work relatively fluidly from the gut, but inbetween I step back and contemplate my results. My pictures are worked onwhile lying on the floor. At the beginning there is always the picture and colorsurface, further "traces" emerge in the process - "flow". I leave traces on the canvas or, alternatively, on the paper, similar to the tracesof the day/life. Inner experiences flow into this process, much like diaryentries. I usually work on several canvases/papers at the same time, thecreative process can take a long time, sometimes months. I try to access notonly conscious but also unconscious thoughts and feelings.I reject art as a pure idea or concept, the head rather complements the gutand the feelings. I am part of the emotional painting process - I step back andreflect from a distance. Disruptions - in terms of style, content and technique - are planned or ariseduring the process. I don't avoid decoration, but rather enjoy it, as for me it ispart of the painting process and the handling of colors. In this respect, there iscontact with applied art and design, which I do not reject as "everyday art" inthe sense of the Bauhaus.Incorporating language and embroidering as pictorial elements stems fromthe fact that I am trying to expand traditional painting. I started painting when,as a young woman on a trip to Guatemala, I saw the colorful, self-wovenfabrics of the indigenous women. For me, this was painting in a different formand culture, and the intense colors in particular inspired me to create my ownwork. Embroidery also underlines the meditative character of my paintings, as it is arelatively slow process and allows you to calm down. I am also interested insuperimposing different layers and patterns, some of which have little to dowith each other. This is part of my current experience of the world. I see and experience manythings in the present that are superimposed, shifted so to speak, but do notactually fit or belong together. Here, too, I try to expand traditional painting.At the same time, however, I also try to stay with myself and my female orindividual self. This means that my works are neither large, aggressive norpolitical in a direct sense.

Mywork, Arinola, reflects the fragile innocence of a child born into a peacefulworld that is gradually shaped by conflict and hardship. Through this piece, Ihope to remind viewers that artists have the power to protect hope, awakencompassion, and inspire a future where humanity lives in harmony with oneanother and with nature."
My name is Gabriel Olanrewaju Ojo, an artist working under the name Avalon.My practice explores the emotional landscape of the human experiencethrough expressive drawing and figurative art. My work is rooted in themes of vulnerability, resilience, identity, and hope.Through monochrome compositions and symbolic forms, I seek to capturemoments that words often fail to express. Each piece reflects the quiet tensionbetween innocence and reality, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and connectwith their own experiences. Artist Gan-Ochir Munkhjargal is a member of the Mongolian Artists’ Union andan active contributor to the field of Mongolian visual arts. She graduated witha Bachelor's degree from the School of Fine Arts in 2009 and has beenpursuing graduate studies in Arts Management at the Mongolian StateUniversity of Arts and Culture since 2010. She began her artistic career in 2007 and held her first solo exhibition,“Accord,” at the Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts in 2009. Since then, she hassuccessfully presented numerous solo exhibitions in Mongolia and abroad,including “Motivation,” “05:25 Time,” “The Air,” “Masterpiece Solution Art,” “Inthe Emotion,” “Symmetry,” “YAMADA,” “Nomad,” “Sense,” “Light of Life,” and“Steppe Wind.” Her artworks reflect the character of contemporary Mongolian visual art whileuniquely exploring the human inner world, nomadic culture, ornamentalpatterns, the essence of life, nature, and the relationship between emotionsand the environment. Gan-Ochir’s artistic style is distinguished by itsharmonious fusion of traditional Mongolian heritage and contemporary visuallanguage. She has actively represented Mongolian visual arts on the international stage,exhibiting her works in Japan, China, India, South Korea, Nepal, Russia,Kyrgyzstan, Germany, France, and other countries. Notable exhibitions andevents in which she has participated include the Beijing International ArtBiennale, the “Reciprocal” Exhibition at the Yamanashi Prefectural ArtMuseum, the “Arts & Human Rights” International Women Artists Exhibition,and prestigious exhibitions such as “International Alcohol Ink Art” and“Motherhood.” From 2006 to 2020, she consistently participated in the Mongolian Artists’Union Women Artists Group Exhibitions, contributing to the development andpromotion of Mongolian visual arts. This artwork explores the themes of human connection, coexistence, and thereflection of one's inner world through another. The two vibrant orangecircular forms at the center symbolize two individuals and the warmth of theirspirits. Although they exist as separate entities, they share the same spaceand are connected by an invisible bond. The narrow gap between the two forms represents the delicate yet valuablespace within human relationships. It embodies the desire for closeness, theboundaries of individual existence, and the realm of mutual understanding. The ornamental patterns set against the gray background carry multiplelayers of meaning, including nature, the essence of life, and the passage oftime. Arranged in a symmetrical, mirror-like structure, these motifs suggestthe process of self-discovery through others—how we come to understandourselves and recognize our own reflection within another person. The vibrant orange color symbolizes vitality, love, passion, and emotionalwarmth. Its luminous intensity further expresses the energy, mutual influence,and emotional power that emerge at the point where two lives intersect.

Odbayar Gandorj (born 1980) is a Mongolian visual artist specializing intraditional Mongolian painting. He studied at the School of Fine Arts, enrollingin the Department of Mongolian Painting in 1998, and graduated with aBachelor's degree in 2003. From 2012 to 2017, Odbayar served as a member of the Arts and CultureCommittee of the Mongolian Youth Federation. Since graduating in 2003, hehas worked as an independent artist, continuously developing his artisticpractice and exhibiting his work both in Mongolia and internationally. Throughout his career, Odbayar has participated in numerous prestigious exhibitions and art events. His works have been featured in the annual Spring Exhibitions (2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2016) and Autumn Exhibitions (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018). He has also participated in the Young Artists Exhibitions (2008–2010), the Mongolian Painting Association Exhibitions (2008–2015), and the New Works Exhibitions (2006, 2008, 2009,2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017). His work has been included in significant national and internationalexhibitions, including the 360th Anniversary Exhibition of Ulaanbaatar, theHorse Culture Exhibition in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (2013), theKorea–Mongolia Joint Artists Exhibition in Daecheon, South Korea (2013,2014), Mongolian Cultural Days in Novosibirsk (2016), and the FukuokaTriennale (2014). Odbayar has also participated in the exhibitions Beautiful Mongolia (2013–2016), Best Artwork of the Year (2012, 2013, 2015, 2018), and Book IllustrationExhibition (2014). In 2012, he presented his solo exhibition, A Place ofNomadic Life. Garfield Morgan is a Jamaican multidisciplinary artist who started his artcareer as a Graphic Designer and then completed an MFA in Painting atStephen F. Austin State University (SFASU) in Nacogdoches, Texas USA. Upongraduating he was awarded the Post Graduate Fellowship at his alma mater.Garfield and his wife Shelley now reside in Edmonton Canada.
I am truly inspired by this year’s theme, "From Sun To Boy," which beautifullycaptures the dynamic interplay between creativity, nature, and the ongoingsearch for identity amidst constant change. This concept resonates deeply with my personal and artistic journey, as I explore how individuals evolve andtransform in relation to the natural world.
My submission, “Who Am I?” reflect the fluid relationship between humanity,his inner urgings and the environment. It emphasises the interconnectednessof ecosystems and the continuous flux within both nature and selfhood.Through my art, I aim to express that identity is not static but rather an ever-evolving process shaped by and shaping the natural surroundings. This alignsclosely with BIEAF’s commitment to honouring nature and fosteringcollaborative artistic expression. I am extremely excited about the opportunityto contribute to this meaningful dialogue and the vibrant community thatBIEAF represents.

"나 는 누구인가." 우리는 살아가며 끊임없이 이 질문을 던진다. 그러나 쉽게 스스로를 명확하게 규정할 수 있는 사람은 없을 것이다. 우리는 고정된 자아를 기준으로 무언가 선택한다고 믿지만, 중요한 순간마다 그 자아는 유보되거나 왜곡된다. 작가는거울 속에 비친 대상을 '나'라는 것으로 상정하고 그것을 그리는 행위를 기록했다.

Hermes is portrayed not as the god of speed, but as the interpreter whomoves between light and darkness, truth and perception. Jorge Duarte Martínez, a visual artist, muralist, and film actor, holds a degreein Visual Arts with a specialization in painting. Fragments of a Memory is an abstract cyanotype defined by deep Prussianblue tones and delicate light gradations. It investigates memory throughlayered exposures and organic forms that suggest fragility andtransformation. The work emphasizes texture and diffusion to evoke theinstability of recollection. It also reflects on photography’s connection tomemory, understood as a process of drawing with light. The piece invites openinterpretation within a contemporary experimental photographic framework.
George Popovici graduated from the George Enescu University of Arts in Iasi -Faculty of Visual Arts and Design, where he earned a PhD in Visual Arts, aftergraduating from the Faculty of Music Performance at the same university. Heis a university lecturer at the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design, where heteaches studio photography, analog and darkroom photography, and hasbeen a member of the Romanian Artists' Union since 2016. A multidisciplinary artist, he is best known as a photographer specializing infine art photography, but he has also done fashion photography, visualdocumentation for art exhibitions and theater performances, productphotography, graphics for advertising posters, video art and digital processing. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in Romania and has taken part innational and international group shows, creative art competitions, creativesymposia.His focus in the area of artistic photography is related to the analysis of thehuman body and of elements in nature.

George Struikelblok starts his art studies at the Nola Hatterman Art Academyin Suri-name. In 1997 he continues his art education at the Edna Manley College forthe Visualand Performing Arts in Jamaica. The two years in Jamaica are critical to thedevelopmentof his work and theme and after Jamaica his career takes off. He participatesin manynational and international exhibitions and in 2006 he opens his own studio‘Atelier Stru-ikelblok’. He is artist in residence at the Duende Art institute in Rotterdam andcompletesa research project on art in public spaces and land art at the Rijksakademie inAmster-dam. Three dimensional art is of special interest to George Struikelblok and inrecent na-tional art shows he presents large socially motivated multimedia (ofteninteractive) artinstallations. He has also created several public art installations at differentlocationsthroughout Suriname. In march 2016 he launched his foundation ‘G-Art Blok’,it includesa large exhibition space and the main goals are encourage art among youthand art ex-change projects/programs with international organizations.

The sunrepresents our African heritage — its warmth, its ochre and earthen tones thatI bring to life through AVIAKPO, my technique blending natural pigments,sand, and recycled materials. The boy represents the younger generations,those who receive this light and must learn to carry it forward with wisdom.At the center of this dialogue lies a value I hold essential: mutual respect. Inmy painting "Mutual Respect," I depict two figures facing one another in silentdialogue, with hands appearing below as a reminder that respect is not onlyspoken, but also felt and shown through gesture. This painting shows two lovers consuming each others souls. Most peoplewould say its cute but if you look closer theres a spark in between. This sparkis on both of them however from the girl (her backside body) it flies away. Buteven though the spark is flying away shes forcing herself to be consumed byhim causing the spark to get larger that it covers their faces. What happenswhen a spark gets larger? A fire starts. So basically this painting describeshow a spark isnt the only thing that keeps a relationship together, loyalty is (asshe stays while the spark is escaping her body). But if you force yourself tostay in a relationship, both sides have to burn.

Born in Avellino in 1955, he studied sculpture in Carrara. In 1986, he moved toGermany, and in 1994 he founded CASALABORATORIO in Borgo Pace(Urbino), an atelier and a hub for cultural events. He creates numerousmonumental sculptures for public spaces across Europe, participates inexhibitions and symposia, and has been invited as a guest artist around theworld.
The project stems from observing clouds—ever-changing forms that belongto the sky yet reflect humanity's deepest aspirations. In this instance, theirshapes recall ancient dugouts, primordial vessels that evoke journeys,transitions, and the meeting of different worlds.
These "sky boats" symbolize a path leading from sun to boy, from dream toreality, and from imagination to tangible experience. The journey is not merelyphysical but internal; it represents an opportunity to mend the bond betweenhumanity and nature, bridging the desire for transcendence with ourresponsibility toward the world we inhabit.
In the "From Sun to Boy" theme, the boy becomes the guardian of thismessage. He is the one who receives the sun's light—not only as vital energyand hope for the future but also as a responsibility. The cloud-boats carry thislegacy, reminding us that every generation is called upon to preserve Earth'sbalance and safeguard harmony among living beings.
Crafted from paper—a material that is fragile yet capable of transformationand renewal—the artwork invites reflection on the environment's delicacy andthe need for a more respectful relationship with nature. The lightness of theseforms does not signify weakness; rather, it expresses a quiet strength: thepower of imagination, memory, and hope.

Gina Pascual is a recent Fine Arts graduate and an emerging visual artist based in Spain. Her work primarily revolves around the relationship betweenchildren and animals, although she has also explored other subjects, such asstill life. Likewise, her practice extends beyond painting into sculpture, with aparticular focus on wool, which she incorporates into her paintings throughhandwoven tapestry fragments and stitched interventions directly onto thecanvas. Overall, her work is characterized by the combination of techniquesand materials, establishing a continuous dialogue between painting, tapestry,and sculptural elements to create symbolic and evocative worlds. Her current body of work explores themes of childhood, memory, vulnerability,and the uncertainties of growing up. Within these works, animals play a centralrole alongside children, inviting viewers to reconnect with their inner childwhile reflecting on fear, identity, and transformation. Nature is a recurringpresence in her visual practice, giving shape to scenes defined by forests,vegetation, and a palette of greens and earthy tones that envelop hercompositions. By combining painting with collage, she reinforces the tactileand symbolic qualities of her visual language.

This work is part of a larger project that explores childhood as a symbolicspace through which to address fear, uncertainty, and the process of growingup. The project originated from a personal concern that emerged at thebeginning of my Fine Arts studies, when I was confronted with the uncertaintysurrounding a future career in the arts. This experience became the startingpoint for reflecting on fear not only as an individual emotion, but also as aninherent condition of the transition into adulthood. Through a series of figurative paintings, the child figure (representing myself)encounters wild animals that serve as metaphors for the anxieties,insecurities, and challenges that accompany the experience of growing up.Within this context, the animal transcends its condition as a living being tobecome a mirror of the human condition: a surface onto which we projecteverything we reject or fail to recognize within ourselves. In this way, thenotion of the monster does not reside in the animal itself, but rather in thehuman gaze that constructs it. This work belongs to one of the three series that make up the project. As thecreative process unfolded, the research gradually evolved into threeinterconnected lines of inquiry. Alongside the relationship between childhoodand the animal as a metaphor for fear, the project examines the adult-centredview of childhood (which often restricts children's autonomy and agency) aswell as the representation of animals within the collective imagination,considering how they have historically been humanized, idealized, ordemonized according to our own symbolic needs. Rather than presenting fear as an exclusively negative experience, the projectproposes a way of coexisting with uncertainty. Instead of offering definitiveanswers, the works remain open to the possibility of an unknown future,embracing uncertainty as a space from which learning, transformation, andgrowth can emerge. Through this journey, viewers are invited to reconnectwith their inner child and to reflect on their own life experiences, questioningthe images, prejudices, and fears they project onto both childhood and thenatural world.

We are blessed by the sun, the giver of life and symbol of consciousness.The artwork shows one eye of the sun, the single eye denoting onepointedness. The sun reminds us of the necessity of focus, without whichthere can be no success. The boy arises out of the lotus. This flowersymbolising the unfolding of spiritual development. With the energies of loveand light, we can evolve into a higher state of consciousness. And with this,comes blessings and peace.
The artwork, a mandala, is placed in a circle, a symbol of oneness andwholeness. The background, black represents The Void.

Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin (b. 1977, Istanbul) is a contemporary Turkishmaster artist and the pioneer of CENE (Conceptual Essence NarrativeExpressionism). Her award-winning, internationally exhibited practice exploresconsciousness, memory, and transformation through expressive, symbolicvisual narratives.
This artwork is created in connection with the theme “From Sun to Boy” of BIEAF 2026. In Turkish symbolism, the sun represents masculine energy, whilethe moon symbolizes feminine energy. The masculine energy embodied bythe sun also signifies the future. Children, in this context, represent the future itself. From the perspective of CENE (Conceptual Essence Narrative Expressionism),this theme transforms into a layered exploration of the subconscious. Thefather figure represents both origin and the future, while the daughtersymbolizes the past emotional world and the feminine essence, which alsoreflects the future of our world. The fact that the artist created this work after the loss of her father revealsthat it is a subconscious expression connected to her own inner sun. Thetambourine (def) held by both the girl and the father symbolizes the sun,becoming a shared and timeless element that bridges past, present, andfuture through symbolic resonance.

Between Breaths

Centered on breath as a core creative metaphor, I hold that life resides withinevery breath, and painting comes as naturally and indispensably asrespiration. Many of my works are titled after "breath", visualizing life’srhythmic flow and continuity. Through the formative language of ink washpainting, I explore the essence of life and its underlying order, interpreting thesimple yet profound truths of existence and revealing the inherent laws of theworld.

작업은 명확히 규정할 수 없는 상태, 즉 ‘경계성(Liminality)’에 대한 탐구에서 출발한다.건축학을 전공하며 모더니즘과 포스트모더니즘 등 건축 이론과 철학을 공부했던 나는, 필연적으로 도면 위의 명확한 선과 현실적인 물리적 경계에 매여 있었다. 건축의언어는 공간을 규정하고 목적에 맞게 분절하는데 익숙하다. 그러나 내가 살고 있는세상의 본질은 그렇게 칼로 자르듯 명확한 경계로 구분될 수 없었다. 우리의 삶과 시간은 분절된 파편이 아니라, 수많은 찰나가 모호하게 엉키고 겹쳐지는 연속선상에놓여 있기 때문이다.이제 규칙에 갇혀있는 대신, 현실의 잣대를 뛰어넘어 생각을 무한히 확장하는 캔버스를 마주한다. 화면 위를 가득 채우는 유기적인 선과 색들은 안과 밖을 가르는 단절의 선이 아니다. 흐트러진 선과 겹겹이 쌓인 색이 만들어내는 심리적인 ‘회색의 지대’다. 규정할 수 없는 모호한 시간과 공간의 결을 시각화하며, 캔버스 위에서 끊임없이 진동하는 새로운 차원의 경계성을 탐구한다.
