This portrait explores the personality of a close friend through symbolic visualelements. Inspired by Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers series and expressivebrushwork, sunflowers represent her warmth, confidence, resilience, andability to bring light into the lives of others. The surrounding stars, music, andradiant sky reflect her optimistic spirit and creative energy, transforming theportrait into an emotional narrative of identity, friendship, and inner beauty.Through the symbolism of the sun and sunflowers, the artwork reflects howhope, positivity, and human connection can inspire growth and brighten thelives of others, echoing the spirit of BIEAF's "From Sun To Boy" theme.

HANA LIM
Korea
LIMHANA is a transdisciplinary artist who constructs an organic narrative byblurring the boundaries between painting, installation, sculpture, photography, media, and music. She reinterprets the process of ‘inner healing’through this integrated language, seeking active communication based on theexpansion of thought and internal exploration. Her work creates a unique volume and texture by combining disparatematerial properties—such as marble, fabric, and wood panels—to manifestthe human inner world. This practice serves as both an extension of two-dimensional work and a reinterpretation of three-dimensional form, realizingimaginary spaces while filling existing ones with new imaginative dimensions. Her installation works, which act as visualized artist statements, confront theaudience directly with concepts and themes through the mise-en-scène ofobjects. Instead of complex sentence structures, she focuses on visualelements that viewers can reaffirm through their own personal language, expecting the work to be completed as a new creative outcome by theaudience's presence.
BIEAF2026 Artist Statement : The Rhythm of 52 Hertz, Becoming a Song of theBoy Under the Sun The declaration of BIEAF2026, which envisions the sun as the origin of theuniverse and the boy as the 'ArtisticHuman'—a soul yearning to express theessence of nature—deeply resonates with the artistic ethos I have longmaintained. I have been visualizing the frequency of the 52-hertz whale through thestructural motif of Isang Yun’s Fluktuationen and the form of East Asian inkwash landscape painting. To me, this frequency is not evidence of isolation ordeficiency; it is a unique trace naturally accumulated over time, much like treerings that have endured harsh seasons. It is not an ephemeral response tosocial disconnection, but a solid, permanent order formed by a being that hastraversed adversity. Through the theme of BIEAF2026, "From the Sun to the Boy," I aim to expandthe rhythm of the 52-hertz wave—which has existed as an individual trajectory—into a larger artistic ecosystem. Just as the boy steps into a new realm, receiving light from the solar goddess, my work aspires to transcend theindividual 'tree rings' of life and function as a shared light of hope for ourcollective future. As part of BIEAF2026, a sustainable artistic movement, I am honored to jointhis beautiful journey where artists harmonize their unique waves to forge abetter future together. BIEAF2026 Artist Statement (Condensed Version)My work 52 Hertz visualizes the whale’s solitary frequency through Isang Yun’sFluktuationen and East Asian ink‑wash forms. For me, this frequency is notisolation but a unique trace of resilience, like tree rings formed throughadversity. In BIEAF2026’s theme “From the Sun to the Boy”, I expand thisrhythm into a shared artistic ecosystem, aspiring to transform individualresonance into a collective light of hope. I am honored to join this sustainablemovement where artists harmonize their unique waves toward a better future.

52-Hertz Whales: Fluktuationen (流動, 1964)

2.Original Painting :

The cross-section of the 52-hertz whale’s wave is rendered in the style of anEast Asian ink wash landscape, inspired by composer Isang Yun’sFluktuationen (1964). This frequency, inaudible to others, serves as a poignantmetaphor for the disconnection and communicative void pervasive in modernsociety. By visualizing these waves as “tree rings”—enduring scars formedthrough harsh winters—I sought to give form to the invisible traces of life thathave overcome adversity. The paradox I aim to present on the canvas is thatour collective story of “enduring the trials of winter” will ultimately shine as ashared light of hope for all.

Harvest of Fragmented Lines
Acrylic on Hanji 45.5×53.0cm 2026
My practice explores imperfection as a process rather than an outcome.Beginning with Drawing Farming, I recall fragmented memories under self-imposed constraints that suspend conscious judgment. The collected formsare reconstructed into new visual relationships, while their originalincompleteness remains, creating subtle ruptures of meaning. Through thisprocess, I investigate not completion itself but the possibilities of paintingrevealed in its pursuit.

To see ...
Digitalphotography 70x50 2026
I wonder why light always gives me a sense of purpose in life? Does it comefrom the secret message of the first dawn that makes me believe in myselfagain and again? I am reborn when the warmth of the sun gently touches myface and when the light opens my eyes to see the beauty of life. Even though Iam young, I know that I am part of the universe and its wonder. One day I willunderstand the meaning of that message and find a way to express it.

The sun is the source of life and a symbol of hope, dreams, and endlesspossibilities. The theme “From the Sun to the Boy” reminds me of the pureenergy that nature gives to humanity and the dreams that grow within usthrough that light.
My work is a process of expressing the beauty of nature through colors, forms, and emotional memories found within it. Just as sunlight embraces andtransforms the world, the colors and movements of nature awaken the dreamsand hopes deeply rooted in my heart.
Through this theme, I seek to capture the beauty of the connection betweennature and human emotions — the journey of light from the sun becoming adream within a boy’s heart. I hope my work conveys a warm memory, inspiration, and a message of hope to those who encounter it.
