Artist's Introduction :

Photographer and filmmaker based in the south of France, my work is rootedin the experience of places and movement. I work in series, with an open eyeand no pretense of objectivity.

For the past ten years, I have been gradually leaving behind a long commercialpractice in video and photography. What has emerged is an authorial practicebuilt around the relationship between people and their world, how societiesorganize and inhabit territory, and how individuals find their place within it.

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

Rivages is a series born from a shift in my practice, stepping back fromcommercial work toward something more essential and personal. The territoryis familiar, but the gaze is new. That movement toward light, toward one's owncreative core, is what this series shares with the spirit of this edition.

Digital Photography  50x50 cm  2026

Description of the work :

Rivages is a series of wanderings around Béziers, from La Malhaute ponds, former sand quarries reclaimed by reeds and birds, to the beaches ofSérignan and Valras. A territory I have known all my life : fishing as a child, lateevenings on the beach as a teenager. The series emerged gradually, fromimages accumulated in these peripheral spaces, shaped by ordinary gesturesand long habits. These three images are excerpts from that ongoing work.

Mystic Horizon

Mixed Media  20cm x 20cm  2026

Description of the work :

Mystic Horizon is an exploration of that hazy boundary where dreams fade intoreality. Through layers of purple and blue, I’ve tried to capture a landscape thatexists more in the mind than in the physical world. The abstract forms and softtextures represent a distant horizon—one that is both mysterious and inviting, constantly shifting as we try to reach it. This piece serves as a meditation onthe unknown; it is a space for quiet reflection, where the viewer is invited tostep into the mist and define the horizon for themselves.

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

Vietnam

Artist Le Van Yen: Member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. Member ofthe Hanoi Fine Arts Association, Member of the Vietnam Women Visual ArtistsClub. Participated in numerous domestic and several international exhibitions. My creative philosophy: Sometimes I begin a painting with the intention ofexploring an idea that suddenly appears in my mind. Other times, I begin withan emotion. That emotion may come from nature. It may come from a quiet moment ineveryday life, or from an emotion that lingers long after words have faded. Ipaint because some experiences cannot be fully explained—they can only befelt. When working, I rarely force a painting to conform to a predetermined image.Instead, I let it develop naturally. Color, texture, and movement become alanguage of their own, gently revealing what has been hidden within me. Morethan once, a painting has surprised me by becoming something I neverplanned, yet somehow perceived as profoundly authentic. Nature often appears in my work—not as a landscape, but as a reflection ofour inner world. Wind, storms, light, and earth all carry emotions familiar tome. They remind me that strength can coexist with gentle stillness, and thateven moments of chaos can be the beginning of transformation. I don't paint to offer answers. I paint to create a space where emotions can befreely expressed, where viewers are free to carry their own memories, questions, and stories. If someone stands before one of my paintings andquietly discovers something they didn't know they were carrying withinthemselves, then the work has found its true meaning.

Description of the work :

I don't want to tell a complete story or offer a single interpretation. Instead, Iwant to create a space where viewers can enter with their own emotions.Perhaps each person will see a different storm, a physical storm or anemotional storm. Perhaps they will realize they have hurt someone they onceloved, or even a hidden wound within themselves.

For me, rebellion in the storm is not the absence of calm. It is the moment wefinally accept all parts of ourselves.

Description of the work :

Yoon Young-ae is a Western-style painter based primarily in NorthGyeongsang Province and Seoul. She majored in Western painting at both theundergraduate and graduate levels (M.A.). Her work explores the themes ofinvisible time and the restoration of life found in daily existence and nature, expressing the process by which waiting leads to hope through the formalqualities of line drawing and the symbolism of butterflies. Guided by the beliefthat the cycles of nature and human growth are intertwined, she seeks toconvey a message of healing and hope through her art by capturing theessence of life and the value of coexistence in her works.

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

The theme ‘From the Sun to the Boy’ evoked a journey in which the light of thesun—the source of creation—connects to the artist’s soul, which expressesthe essence of nature. My work, *The Time of Hidden Light*, also captures theprocess by which life blossoms into light through waiting and restoration. Ihope this International Environmental Art Festival will be a meaningfuloccasion to reflect once more on the essence of nature and art, and to sharethe value of coexistence.

Hidden Light's Time — The Moment Standing Before the ightⅠ

Mixed media on Canvas  60.6☓72.7cm  2025

Description of the work : ‘Time of Hidden Light’

is a work that expresses the value of waiting andrecovery through the formal transformation of line work and the symbolism ofthe butterfly. The repetitive lines filling the canvas signify the passage of timeaccumulated by life, whilst the transition from long, continuous lines toprogressively shorter ones symbolises the process by which the light of hopedraws nearer after a period of waiting. The butterfly in the work represents abeing that blossoms into new life after enduring long suffering, embodyingthe cycle of nature, recovery, and the potential for creation. If the sun is thesource of all life, then its light, through growth and transformation over time, leads to new life. This work seeks to convey a message of hope for a future inwhich humanity and nature recover and coexist together.

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

I am a visual artist based in Jeju, South Korea. Through paintings made withdiscarded fishing nets, I explore the relationship between nature andhumanity, focusing on coexistence, connection, and our shared world.

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

To me, From Sun To Boy speaks of a journey from nature to humanity. I see thesun as the origin of life and nature, and the boy as humanity learning tounderstand its place within that living world. This interpretation resonatesdeeply with my practice, which explores the relationship between nature andhumanity through the transformation of discarded fishing nets. It reminds methat our future depends not only on how we treat nature, but also on how wechoose to exist within it.

Description of the work :

'Sparkling ripple' explores the relationship between nature and humanitythrough blue and the transformation of discarded fishing nets. Blue recalls thesea, the sky, and quiet moments of reflection. Once used at sea, the netsremain as traces of human activity. Within the painting, they take on newforms, carrying the possibility of another existence and quietly reshaping theway nature and humanity are perceived.

Description of the work :

Image of myth

(Fragment of the time-Image of Myth)

acrylic & oil on canvas  162.1x112.1cm  2026

Description of the work :

The Time Bloomed from the Sun

Acrylic on canvas   45x53cm   2026

Description of the work :

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

Description of the work :

Kübra Köprülüoğlu Aşanlı (b. 1984) is a contemporary artist based in Türkiye. Her multidisciplinary practice explores ecology, indigenous knowledge, cultural memory, and human–nature relationships through painting, installation, video, and sound. Her work has been exhibited internationally.

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

I am honored to participate in the 23rd Busan International Environment Art Festival (BIEAF2026), as a Steering Committee Member and participating artist, under this year’s theme, “From Sun To Boy.”
My work, part of my Wisdom Keepers series, portrays the San people of Southern Africa, one of humanity’s oldest living cultures. Their profound relationship with the Sun, nature, ritual, and the spirit world reminds us that ancient knowledge can offer valuable perspectives for the future.
Through this work, I reflect on what we risk forgetting as we move forward: our connection to nature, collective memory, and the wisdom carried across generations.
I believe that remembering these ancient ways of knowing can help us imagine a more hopeful future—one built on unity, reciprocity, and a deeper respect for all forms of life.
I am grateful to BIEAF for creating a space where artists from around the world can come together through art, nature, and a shared hope for future generations.

WISDOM KEEEPERS THE SAN / BUSHMEN

Acrylics On Canvas  70x90 cm  2025

Description of the work :

While creating my Wisdom Keepers Serries, I felt a deep awe toward the San people of the desert. I later understood this as a recognition of an ancient wisdom. With roots reaching back over 100,000 years, the San hold a profound connection to the Sun, nature, ritual, and the spirit world. Their trance dances and cave paintings carry stories of healing, memory, and transformation. Through this work, I hope to carry this ancient wisdom forward, inspiring future generations to build a hopeful future rooted in unity.

Description of the work : This piece belongs to my Wisdom Keepers series, a visual homage to ancestral knowledge carried across generations — knowledge that whispers of balance, reciprocity, and resilience. Today, over 476 million Indigenous people inhabit more than 90 countries. Their connection to the land is more than geographical — it is spiritual, intuitive, and enduring. Even amidst the steel and concrete of modern cities, their relationship with nature remains an inseparable thread in the fabric of their identity. Haenyeo, like many other cultural symbols, reflects this sacred bond — a lineage of women divers whose lives are lived in rhythm with the sea, not in dominion over it. Their existence is not only a practice but a philosophy: one that respects limits, honors the cycles of nature, and listens deeply to the wisdom of the earth. Through this work, I aim to amplify voices often unheard — to render visible what is at risk of vanishing. My art becomes a vessel, carrying forward stories that remind us who we are and who we might still become. Climate change, social injustice, and the ever-widening rift between humans and the natural world have led us astray. We no longer see ourselves as part of nature, but as its rulers — exploiting its resources as if they were infinite. Yet, there are still people, communities, and cultures in this world who have not lost their essence. By illuminating these keepers of wisdom, I hope to inspire awareness, to create space for reflection, and to spark a shift — a paradigm of healing, repair, and reconnection.

Description of the work : Surviving in reds

Description of the work' : Sunset - 01 Sunset is that quiet time in the evening when the sun slowly goes down. It is a moment when something new becomes old, gently passing the baton to whatever comes next. Nobody really knows whether the coming darkness will bring fear or a peaceful rest. Right in the middle of Times Square in New York, a middle-aged couple is arguing on the boulevard. They look heavy and greedy, and though they seemed to be dreaming a sweet dream until yesterday, today they are tearing each other apart just to claim a single pig. In the face of material wealth, things like conscience and dignity seem completely useless. In a capitalist world overflowing with flashing ads and endless goods, humans reveal their shallowest desires through a kind of crazy greed. Standing right behind them is a young couple whose energetic energy creates a huge contrast with the greedy older pair. This young couple was created by artificial intelligence, or AI. Having just finished their wedding, they look lively, yet their faces are completely expressionless. It leaves you with a strange feeling, making you wonder if the future ahead will be a tragedy or a comedy. Far in the background, a Mars rover is getting ready to launch into the unknown. Ominous black clouds gather in the sky, but far off in the distance, a quiet evening star shines bright. It feels like there is still hope left. In the center of the piece stands Michelangelo's David, a grand symbol of the Renaissance—the bridge between the Middle Ages and the modern world. As the descendants of this modern era, where are we heading?

Description of the work' : Sunset - 02

Sunset is that quiet time in the evening when the sun slowly goes down. It is a moment when something new becomes old, gently passing the baton to whatever comes next. Nobody really knows whether the coming darkness will bring fear or a peaceful rest.

An anatomy class has opened right in the middle of the street in Times Square. A physical AI robot acts as a surgeon, leading the lesson. The AI takes the form of a middle-aged woman from the 17th century, but her body is overwhelmingly huge, and she wears an armband that reads "AI 01." A human doctor in a white coat looks on, pushed off to the side after handing his central spot over to the AI.

While the AI quietly performs the surgery with a calm expression under a large hat, the crowd gathering around has all kinds of different reactions. A judge in his robes frowns and touches his nose as if denying what he sees. A scientist in a white coat looks on with wonder and surprise. A businessman in a yellow t-shirt is busy calculating money, while a professor with glasses stares wide-eyed at the AI doctor. A sly-looking politician raises his arm and shouts in celebration, and a philosopher in purple clothes quietly gazes at the body on the table. In the center, a white-bearded pastor cannot hide his displeased look. On the right, a tall citizen looks nervous and shocked, while a reporter peeks through the crowd, busy trying to cover the story.

This scene parodies Rembrandt's famous painting, The Anatomy Lesson, but moves the setting from a dark room in the past to modern-day Times Square, packed with advertisements. Watching all of this silently is the statue of the Pietà—Mary holding the body of Jesus—adding a deep sense of symbolism.

At the end of the human journey—which moved from myths to stories, stories to history, and history to reality—stands AI. The crowds walking beneath the flashy shop windows and endless ads do not care about this anatomy class at all. Ominous black clouds gather in the sky, but far away, a quiet evening star shines bright. It feels like hope is still there. After passing through the Renaissance, when focus shifted from God to humanity, where are we heading now in this world shared by humans and AI?

MOON NIGHT

Description of the work :

My artistic journey began with a profound sense of awe experienced beforethe snow-capped peaks of Annapurna in the Himalayas. To prepare for theHimalayas, I challenged myself to traverse the Baekdudaegan—the grandmountain range of the Korean Peninsula—in 2011, which marked the inceptionof my 15-year artistic and physical asceticism. Although I initially began hikingthe Baekdudaegan as a training ground for the Himalayas, this monumentalmountain range ultimately opened my eyes to the treasure that is Korea’snature, steering the entire compass of my artistic world toward the mountains.Following my first traversal of the Baekdudaegan, I finally set foot on theHimalayas in 2014. It was there that I experienced the 'Sacred Vitality' dwellingfar beyond visible forms. The agonizing question of how to solidify thisinvisible energy onto a canvas led to the development of my unique coloringtechnique, where stone powder and acrylic pigments are layered dozens oftimes to condense the Qi (vital energy). Thereafter, through a second traversal (2018–2020) and a third traversalduring the isolation of the pandemic (2020–2024), I experienced a differentfacet of nature compared to the Himalayas—mountains that stood on the sideof humanity, offering profound consolation and love. On the ridges of theBaekdudaegan, I discovered the sublime spirit of love embedded in 'Jogakbo'(traditional Korean patchwork), a cornerstone of traditional Korean aesthetics.Through this realization, the materialization of Qi evolved further into a 'WarmAbstraction' composed of patchwork-like colored planes. To me, mountaineering is a 'Physical Performance Art' where the vitality ofnature and the human body collide to conceive art. I will continue to ascendthe mountains for as long as my physical body allows, recording the languageof consolation extended by Mother Nature onto my canvas.

The Flowing Mountain - From Socheong of Seoraksan

Acrylic and Stone powder on Canvas  90.9X65.1cm  2026

Description of the work :

"The Flowing Mountain - From Socheong of Seoraksan" is a manifestation ofAscetic Art, capturing the infinite vitality and transformative momentsembraced by Seoraksan, the spine of the Baekdudaegan mountain range.Scaling Daecheongbong Peak amidst the freezing cold of December, theartist endured a harrowing moment, taking each precarious step by relyingentirely on the thick ropes under a tempestuous wind and a sudden blizzard. The next morning at Socheong, however, was a world apart from the night'showling wind.

Along with the welcoming morning sunlight, it was the veryepitome of dazzling serenity. In the artwork, the countless peaks of Seoraksanflow, reconstructed into the form of 'Jogakbo' (traditional Korean patchwork)imbued with the warm sentiments of Korean tradition. The geometric divisionof planes and the diverse pastel tones of blue, purple, and lyrical pink displaythe coexistence of the tranquility left by the previous day's winter blizzard(Purplish Blue) and the heartwarming warmth conveyed by the morningsunlight (Pink). Woven cozy like a mother’s love, the mountain ridges shapedlike traditional patchwork tenderly embrace the wounded soul of thepractitioner.

Just like the serene sunlight (consolation) following a violent blizzard(hardship), this piece reflects how the immense love of nature always exists toheal us after the pains of life. Through the flowing energy of the mountain, theartist wishes to extend the profound consolation that Seoraksan offers.

Desert Journey

Plastic Collage  18x24 inches  2023

Description of the work : Desert Journey

This yonder journey we embarked upon
Through the Sahara desert, via the Mediterranean Sea
In search of greener pastures, Yes! greener pastures indeed, at the expense of life and death... We had too much pressures to bear
Many dropped dead from exhaustion and fatigue
Scorns of human carcass litters the desert and floating bodies on the Sea shores
But we survived... And became refugees in a foreign land
Now ! we call it home, away from home, regardless of our ordeal,

distinguishing ourselves here and making positive marks.
Yes.! We remain resolute to life....

Artist's Introduction :

In the spirit of Asian calligraphy, Yves approaches drawing as a form of writing. His ink figures are created spontaneously and without retouching, executed ina single stroke—or nearly so. Mastery of the gesture is essential to ensure thatcontrol and letting go come into play in equal measure.

Description of the work :

A single, symbolic stroke to unravel the complexity of the gaze. The usualdemand for likeness recedes into the background. In its movement, the brushseeks contact—nothing but contact. I begin with a preliminary drawing—initially a portrait that is as true to life as possible—and then search for itsessential "handwriting" to move toward simplification. The intention lies in thespace between the sitter’s gaze and the artist’s own. There are many attempts, with varying degrees of success; here, I have cut out and assembled differentparts from several portraits.
