Description of the work :

My work titled "Illuminated lineage" examines origin through light. A gouacheand charcoal umbilical cord is struck by directional sun, with light illuminatingselect folds. Tea staining ages the surface, referencing time and lineage. Thecord once a source of nourishment, a biological remnant - now becomes a linedrawn by the sun. It is about beginnings, severance, and the way lightcontinues to define us.

Safa Büte
Türkiye

Safa Büte is a contemporary Turkish painter and curator, recognized bothnationally and internationally, who has left a deep mark on the art world withhis unique style. Born in Niğde in 1958, the artist stands out with his mission tospread art to the masses by blending Anatolia's rich cultural heritage with auniversal language. We can summarize the artist's artistic identity, technicalapproach, and vision under the following main headings: 1. "Safa Büte Style" and Technical CharacteristicsThis style, directly described by art critics as the **"Safa Büte Style"**, is basedon multi-layered and patient craftsmanship:* **The World of Points and Lines:** His works are dominated by an enormoustexture created by the combination of thousands, even millions, of points andlines. This technique is particularly evident in his ink on paper and oil oncanvas works. * **Hidden Figures and Dreams:** Although her works mayappear abstract or general at first glance, careful and prolonged examinationreveals new figures, faces, and stories hidden within the composition. Theartist describes this situation as, *"No matter how many times you look at myworks, you will find a new dream and new figures each time."** **An Irreversible Process:** In ink and pointillism, there is no room for error;because there is no chance to erase or correct. Therefore, the productionprocess requires an extremely high level of concentration and meticulousness. 2. Thematic and Spiritual DepthAlthough Safa Büte's art does not directly correspond to an expressionistlanguage, it is **a pure expression of emotions and existential questions.** * Inher works, love for nature, humanity, animals, universal harmony, and spiritualmessages are intensely felt. * World-renowned art historian and critic **John T.Spike** made this striking comment while examining Büte's works: *"Theseworks reminded me of the sacred paintings that used to be kept in specialdrawers in museums... Sacred works that should be studied and contemplatedwith increasing respect."* 3. International Achievements and Global ImpactThis unique style from Anatolia has garnered great appreciation worldwide:* **Florence Biennial:** In 2003, he was awarded 4th place at the 4th FlorenceBiennial held in Italy.* **Global Selections:** In 2000, he was listed among the top 10 painters in theworld in a study conducted by the Australian-based *Artist Own Registry*, andwas selected as a special artist on international platforms (USA ArtQuest,etc.). His works have been exhibited in many countries such as Italy, France,Mexico, and Romania, and have been included in private collections. 4. Spreading Art to the Grassroots and Curatorial VisionSafa Büte is not only a painter who produces art in his studio, but also anartistic activist. After many years of experience abroad and outside hishometown, he made a permanent return to his birthplace, **Niğde**, androlled up his sleeves to transform it into an art center.* **ANI Art Niğde International:** Through this international organization hefounded and the art camps he organized, he brought together hundreds ofartists and thousands of works from all over the world (nearly 70 countries) inNiğde.* **The Idea of Anatolian Biennials:** Opposing the confinement of art to largemetropolises, he put forward the idea of **"Anatolian Biennials"**, enabling thelocal people, who had never been to an art exhibition in their lives, to establisha natural connection with galleries and universal art. His art is a holistic storyof existence that appeals to both the eye and the soul, containing deepphilosophical and human stories behind patiently woven lines that extendfrom the local to the universal.

BiographyBorn in Peru, Salomon Torres is a self-taught painter with thirty years ofexperience and a professional photographer; he has combined his career inhotel management with his great passion for painting, creating a unique stylecharacterized by vibrant colors and abstract forms that blend textures with oilor acrylic media. His artistic pseudonym is Sazlo.

Description of the work : "Premonition: Four Years Before 9/11" is a work that captures the unsettlingintersection of art and prophecy. In this painting, the artist employs a dramaticpalette and a dynamic style to convey a sense of impending chaos. Thedepiction of an explosion at the center of the composition is striking; vibrantcolors contrast with dark tones, evoking an atmosphere of tension andunease. The explosion: Rendered with energetic strokes, it symbolizes not onlyphysical devastation but also the emotional impact that tragic events have onsociety. Objects in the air: These flying fragments represent both destruction and loss, reminding us of the fragility of life and the instability of the social order. The airplane tail: This detail is particularly significant, as it alludes directly tothe attack on the Twin Towers, transforming the painting into a kind of visualpremonition that anticipates an event destined to change the course ofhistory. The duality between the beauty of art and the brutality of reality is manifestedin this piece, which becomes a powerful reminder of the human capacity toforesee danger, even in the darkest of times. The work holds not onlyaesthetic value but also serves as a testament to collective memory and theneed to confront our past in order to better understand our present.

Description of the work : Turning eighteen places me at a threshold — between childhood andmanhood, between who I was and who I am choosing to become. In this moment, the “sun” represents everything that has shaped me: love, freedom, growth, peace, faith, creativity, and hope passed down from myfamily and life experiences. As it reaches toward the boy, it entrusts me withthose values as I step into adulthood. The boy is both a symbol of humanity’sfuture and myself, receiving the light, and preparing to create something newwith it. At the same time, I hold a “mirror” worn by time. It carries my past —innocence, curiosity, and the lessons that formed me. Within it, I see my futureself in a graduation gown, representing not just academic success, butdiscipline, purpose, and the man I am working to become. To become a man isnot a perfect journey, but a process of learning, choosing, and evolving.

For me, this theme is deeply meaningful because it reflects what I trulybelieve. There is no greater gift we can offer humanity than a good educationfor children. Everything we have been, everything we are, and everything wewill become is reflected in the eyes of every child. My Inner self

나무  132x26x24cm  2026

<The Sculptor's Chair – An Incomplete Inner Landscape>

The chair is the central motif of my work, standing precariously on unfinishedwooden structures or hanging upside down. It embodies fragments ofchildhood memories shaped by repeated relocations and a lingering sense ofinstability. More than a functional object, the chair becomes a metaphor forthe self—an inner place where memory, vulnerability, and resilience coexist.Though the structures appear fragile and on the verge of collapse, they neverfall. This suspended balance reflects the human will to endure despiteuncertainty. Through wood, a material that bears the traces of time, Itransform incomplete forms into an inner landscape, where imperfectionbecomes a quiet expression of persistence, hope, and the continuous searchfor belonging.

Seb Bradshaw is a multidisciplinary artist and facilitator, exploring humanoccupation of land, and entangled relationships with nature. Drawing fromEnglish and Scottish folklore, she is fascinated by the way myths tell thestories of a place and its people, adapting and changing as society does. Inher multidisciplinary artworks, she uses the myths that made sense of theworld for our ancestors to discuss modern issues including patriarchy, pollution and climate change. Ecology and sustainability is deeply importantto her, and therefore her work is usually created with second hand, recycled,or natural foraged materials.

Tell us about BIEAF2026 'From Sun To Boy' :

I’d love to be part of this project, as my work is strongly concerned with thenatural world, and the way it inspires stories and creativity. I feel that the pieceI have chosen to apply with fits the overarching theme of the show. Theposter’s personification of the sun as a feminine energy was particularlyinteresting, as I am interested in animist beliefs in which natural forces haveunique spirits and motivations. The opportunity to take part in a naturefocused exhibition such as this, alongside other international artists, is anexciting one.

Stoorworm’s Egg

Coloured pencil on paper  60x60cm  2025

Description of the work :

A stoorworm is a monster from Scottish myth, a sea dragon that threatenedthe entire country with its devouring appetite. The ‘egg’ in the photo Sebworked from was actually a huge polystyrene ball, part of a buoy, that washedup on one of the beaches around her father’s home on North Uist, an island offScotland’s west coast. It was the strangest and most surreal thing to comeacross, especially from a distance, where it really did look like a huge egg fromsome gigantic sea monster. And since polluting man made materials likepolystyrene are one of the greatest threats to the ocean today, Seb thoughtthe visual link to the monster was particularly apt.

Artist's Introduction :

The artist places the human body alongside plants and animals that appearharmless yet carry hidden danger, examining the tension that arises betweenthem. Having arrived at these subjects after working through various objects, including bedding, the artist finds that they create the sharpest tension whenplaced near the body. What began, in early works, as a relationship close tothreat has gradually shifted toward exploration, though it remains unresolved.Working in oil paint, the artist renders this relationship with unnatural color tomake its tension visible.

13: TOXIC

oil on canvas  145.5x112.1 cm  2025

Description of the work : This series brings the human body into a single frame with plants and animalsthat look familiar or harmless but carry hidden danger, facing each other at adistance close enough to touch yet never quite touching—a point the artistcalls an interface of survival. The choice of what to place beside the body tooktime: after passing through objects such as bedding, the artist settled onthese organisms, whose vivid or ordinary appearance conceals an underlyingrisk that generates the sharpest tension near the body. No single speciesrepeats; each work seeks out whatever creates the strongest tension in thatframe. The body, too, appears only in fragments rather than as a whole figure,so that the two presences face each other while holding a tension just short ofcontact. In early works this relationship read as threat; over time it has shiftedtoward mutual exploration, though never into comfort. Oil paint carries thedensity and weight the images require, and its unnatural color is used not forrealism but to make this tension visible. Without resolving what is healing andwhat is destruction, the artist continues the work along that undefinedboundary.

Description of the work :

Red White Blue (그림자의 노래)

Oil on canvas  71.5 × 92.5 ( 30호 )  2025

Description of the work : 그림자의 노래

Beauty of Fear

AI, Digital Cyanotype  21 cm x 29.7 cm  2025

Description of the work : This series reinterprets historical symbols of conflict and power through thelens of early photographic process. By transforming intricate illustrations ofeighteenth-century weaponry—an ornate revolver with a hidden dagger, aceremonial hilt from British India dated 1792, and a decorated battle axepaired with cartographic gold leaf—into cyanotypes, the work explores thetension between aesthetic allure and the inherent threat of violence. The Prussian blue monochrome shifts the context of these weapons frominstruments of force to archival artifacts. The organic watercolor edges, characteristic brush strokes, and deep blue tones of the cyanotype processsoften the rigid, sharp lines of the steel, creating a visual paradox. Fear isstripped of its immediate danger and suspended in a state of quiet, melancholic contemplation, inviting the viewer to examine the complexbeauty embedded within objects designed for destruction.

THE EARTH WITHIN HER

Acrylic paints  85cm×58 cm  2026

The Earth Within Her

This painting is a tribute to the inseparable bond between humanity andnature. The woman, rooted in leaves, embraced by waves, and gazing towardthe mountains beneath a radiant sun, symbolizes Mother Earth—resilient, nurturing, and eternal. The swirling sky reflects the infinite rhythm of theuniverse, while every element reminds us that forests, oceans, mountains, andhumankind are interconnected. Through this work, I invite viewers to seenature not as something outside us, but as a part of our very being—worthy ofgratitude, respect, and protection.

Goddess Tara

Handmade Paper   23 x 33 inch   2026

Description of the work :

“Tam” is the sacred bija mantra of Goddess Tara — the embodiment ofcompassion, kindness, and divine grace. To me, her love for all beings feels like a prayer in itself, gentle and boundlesslike light. Writing her mantra becomes an act of devotion, a quiet offering oflove and reverence. In this artwork, the mantra is written in the traditional Uchen script of theTibetan language, carrying the spirit of prayer through every stroke.

Structure of Life

Acrylic on Canvas  5x5.6 Feet  2025

Description of the work : Structure of Life This artwork explores the invisible structures that shape human existencewithin contemporary society. It reflects the realities of injustice, inequality, fear, and the silent struggles that often remain hidden beneath everyday life. The composition presents a metaphorical world where human beings areentangled within social, political, and psychological systems that influencetheir freedom, identity, and sense of belonging. The mechanical elements and interconnected forms symbolize the complexstructures of modern civilization—systems of power, control, and socialexpectations that often determine the course of individual lives. The figuresrepresent ordinary people navigating these realities, carrying emotionalburdens while attempting to preserve hope, dignity, and resilience. Theirpresence reflects both vulnerability and strength, emphasizing the tensionbetween oppression and survival. The recurring imagery of gears, fragmented forms, and organic elementssuggests the continuous interaction between human emotions and themachinery of contemporary life. While society often appears driven byefficiency, competition, and authority, individuals continue to nurture dreams, relationships, and aspirations within these restrictive environments. The workexamines how silence can emerge from fear, marginalization, orpowerlessness, yet it also highlights the quiet endurance that enables peopleto move forward. Drawing from personal observations and lived experiences, this paintingbecomes a reflection on the human condition. It questions how socialstructures shape our choices, limit our voices, and influence our perceptionsof freedom. At the same time, it acknowledges the persistence of hope thatexists even in difficult circumstances. Through surreal and metaphorical imagery, Structure of Life invites viewers tocontemplate the delicate balance between control and freedom, suffering andresilience, and the enduring capacity of humanity to seek meaning withincomplex social realities.
