Ferda Çevikel
Turkiye
Born in Türkiye in 1964, I live and work in Ankara. I have painted in watercolorsince 2008 and oil since 2010. My work has been featured in two solo andseveral group exhibitions. An IWS member, I focus on landscapes and flowers, exploring the expressive power of color.
Description of the work :
The sun symbolizes light, hope , life, love, warmth, safety, and creation.Inspired by the childhood tale The Child Who Lost the Sun, I imagined a sun ascomforting as a home, as loving as a family, and as joyful as a balloon, revealing the beauty of nature. The child protects the sun inside a balloon, carrying its light and love everywhere, then passes the string to the nextgeneration, ensuring these values endure.

Description of the work :

Born of the Burden
Conceptual Digital Poster Design 70x100cm 2026
Born of the Burden transforms displacement into a visual metaphor. Humanfigures carved into fractured stone speak of lives interrupted by conflict, exile, and uncertainty. Rising from the rupture, a single green plant embodiesresilience, hope, and humanity's capacity to endure. The poster invitesreflection on the unseen emotional burden carried by millions who are forcedto rebuild their lives away from home.

Speranza
Sculpture, Relief-two-component resin-unique piece 93x73x6cm 2026
Through metamorphosis—an “artistic style that has evolved over the courseof my artistic journey”— I begin with color and arrive at rebirth. The figuresinterlock in a synthetic form because nothing exists on its own; everything isconnected. From this awareness, “Spéranza” and “Unione” are born.“Speranza” is the first breath after the fracture. It is the metamorphosis of paininto possibility. In a defining moment, a figure emerges: synthetic, essential. Itis the seed that endures. It is the children’s gaze toward the future we stillwant to save. “Unione” is the answer. While decay divides, art brings us backtogether. Bodies, earth, and symbols interlock until they become a singleorganism. Because only together can we regenerate. Only together can wegive our children a world that is not just ruin, but rebirth.
About BIEAF2026 “From Sun To Boy”: We live in a deteriorating environment. The wounds we inflict on nature today will be the burden borne by the nextgeneration of children. I felt the need to express this through art.

Resilience
glass, wood, wheat. 28x15x20 2026
Resilience reflects on nature's ability to regenerate despite human impact.Wheat emerges from a transparent glass human face placed on a handmadetable in the middle of a harvested field. Rather than growing from the soil, thewheat grows from the human form, suggesting that humanity is not separatefrom nature but an inseparable part of it. The work speaks of renewal, interdependence, and the resilience of life.

Description of the work :

This is a fascinating project because it addresses an issue of profoundimportance to humanity while giving artists the opportunity to express ourvisions of the relationship between nature and its ecosystems. There is agrowing need to reaffirm the value of art and the artist in guiding societytoward a more sustainable future. Sensitivity is what moves people to reflect,to question, and ultimately to inspire the awareness and actions needed tobuild a more harmonious coexistence with our planet.

The centralfigure contemplates this abyss of light, a symbolic reflection on the future andthe choices that will shape it.
